Lola Sorenson Peterson, age 96, peacefully passed on from this life on April 20, 2017, surrounded by her family.
Lola was born to Marguerite Ann Hansen and Elmer Franklin Sorenson on September 19, 1920, in Ephraim, Utah.
Lola loved her childhood years, growing up in Sanpete County with her two brothers, Morris and Paul, and many friends. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was proud of her Danish heritage. In 1947, she married Boyd Eugene Peterson and supported his Naval service as he returned to Korea after already having served in World War II. She was part of The Greatest Generation and had the grit and resilience so indicative of these wonderful men and women. Lola graduated from Snow College and Utah State University and was a gifted elementary teacher for five years and then a full-time mother and homemaker. She loved being a teacher and caring for her children and home.
Lola enjoyed cooking, embroidery, BYU basketball and football, and was an avid Utah Jazz fan. She enjoyed many types of music and always had the radio on in her home. She loved following politics, reading the newspaper, and children's literature. One of her favorite pastimes was spending the afternoon perusing books in the library or bookstore. She was also deeply patriotic. She was known for sending thoughtful cards and letters in the mail. They always included her beautiful handwriting (scripted while using a ruler underneath), newspaper clippings, and a coordinating, colored envelope. Lola was deeply loved as a second mother to many of her children's friends. She was always quick to offer a smile and a compliment, and had a warm, loving, and sweet disposition to the very end of her life. Special thanks to Doreen and Terry for their friendship and love during her final years and to her lifelong, childhood friend, Enid.
Lola is survived by her two daughters, Julie (Mike) Stears, Sugar City, Idaho; and Ann (Phil) Hartvigsen, North Ogden, Utah; 15 grandchildren, and 17 great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, Boyd, and her two sons, Gary and Kent. We know that she is enjoying a sweet reunion with her three favorite guys, who she has missed so much.
Graveside services and interment will be held at Ephraim City Cemetery on Saturday, April 29, 2017, at 2:00 P.M under the direction of Nalder Funeral Home in Shelley, Idaho.
