Randy Dee Cleverley

December 14, 1958 — July 30, 2018

Randy Dee Cleverley, 59, of Idaho Falls, passed away on Monday July 30 of natural causes.

He was born on December 14, 1959, in Idaho Falls to Joyce Elaine (Nelson) and Richard Merlin Cleverley. With his bright blue eyes and long black eyelashes, Randy was such a beautiful child that, for several years, a local photographer kept Randy’s portrait up in his downtown shop for advertising.

While growing up, Randy developed an amazing natural ability to dismantle and rebuild electrical components. At the age of three, he tore apart a large console radio and used the space inside for a hideout. He learned from his father how to take apart and rebuild car engines, and from that time he nearly always had at least one old car in his driveway to fix up. Randy attended Bel Air (Dora Erickson) and Clair E. Gale schools, but mostly learned from the school of hard knocks.

He loved traveling, jigsaw puzzles, car races, and ghost stories. He always wanted to search for the legendary stage robbery gold supposedly buried in the hills above Heise Hot Springs. He loved to sit around a big campfire in Island Park and sleep beneath the stars. One time, a large bear approached Randy and his friends and Randy scared it away by bellowing and running after the bear. Above all else, he enjoyed fishing.

In December 1977, he married Becky Stone. They later divorced. He married Crystal Sywilok in 1987. And they divorced in 1997. He worked many jobs until becoming disabled in an industrial accident in 1989 that took most of his right hand. Randy was greatly loved by his family and will be sorely missed.

He is survived by three daughters: Carylne (Rob) Bowerman of Idaho Falls, Jackie Cleverley of Rigby, Patricia McIntosh, Salmon; and three sons: Allen Cleverly, Adam (Kelly) Cleverley, and Austin (Jody) Cleverley, all of Idaho Falls; three sisters: Vickie (Bob) Speek of Trout Valley, Illinois, Janice (Chuck) Wiegand, Victoria of Texas, and Julie (Roger) Haroldsen of Rigby, and one brother, Matthew (Melissa) Cleverley of North Bend, Washington. He had 17 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren on the way.

Randy was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Dennis Cleverley.

The body will be cremated. The family will meet with friends Friday, August 17, 2018 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Nalder Funeral Home.
