Shirley Speas

October 2, 1943 — June 4, 2018

Shirley Cook Speas, 74, passed away Monday June 4, 2018 at Bingham Memorial Hospital from Atrial Fibrillation.

Shirley was born October 2, 1943 at the Eaton Maternity Home in Shelley, Idaho to Herbert Junior and Delonas Beula (Carson) Cook. She was raised on an Eighty Acre Potato farm south of Shelley with an older sister, Janice.

She went to school in Shelley from grade school through high school. Some of her favorite classes were Art, Music, Shorthand, Typing & Bookkeeping. Her least favorite classes were Math & History. She then attended Ricks College- now BYUI. There she enjoyed taking Home Ec., Designing, and Religion classes. She went the two years for a teaching career. She married Gene William Speas of Woodville on June 23, 1966 in the Idaho Falls Temple.

She enjoyed being a homemaker and raising her family. During this time she was the nursery teacher in the Wapello 1st Ward of the LDS Church for many years. She loved teaching and listening to the many “little people” that she was around. Later she worked for the Blackfoot School District in many different jobs. She also worked at Hard Times II in Shelley for a short time.

As life went on she was blessed with many grandchildren. She loved each and every one. Her favorite things were being able to spend time with family, reading, cross-stitching and her dogs.

She is survived by her children: Delonas Dawn “Dee Dee” (David) Peck, Michelle Mae Speas, Korina Kae (Scott) Wood, Herbert Henry (Kameka) Speas, George Gene (Misty) Speas, Sherrie Sue (Ryan) Powell, Larissa Lei (G.W.) Summers, Vanae Vi (Aaron) Turner, and 26 grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Gene William, and her son William Wayne.

Funeral services will be 1:00 P.M. Saturday, June 9, 2018 at the Wapello First Ward Chapel (337 North 200 East). The family will meet with friends Friday evening from 6:00 till 7:30 P.M. at the Wapello Church and Saturday 12:00 till 12:45 P.M. at the church. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Nalder Funeral Home in Shelley. Burial will be in the Shelley Hillcrest Cemetery.
