Peter Christ Kontes, 80, of Firth passed away on December 10, 2009. He was born November 18, 1929 to Christ and Mary Kontes. He lived all his life in Firth, attended Firth High School and graduated in 1947.
Pete and Mary Lou were married December 27, 1959 in the Greek Orthodox Church in Boise. They owned the Royal Shoe Shop in Idaho Falls for 28 years until health issues forced Pete to retire early.
Pete was a member of The Greek Orthodox Church, Firth Grange, Ducks Unlimited and Masons. He enjoyed fishing, trips to Jackpot, chess and playing cards.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Mary Lou Kontes, his son Tony (Barbara) Kontes and daughter Kathy (Jerod) Williams, grandson Wesley Williams and his brothers Jim and John Kontes.
Funeral services will be Monday December 14, 2:00 at Nalder Funeral Home, 110 West Oak Street in Shelley. The viewing will be Sunday December 13, from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with the Trisagion service at 7:00 p.m at Nalder Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations be made to the Greek Orthodox Church, P.O. Box 4567; Pocatello, Idaho, or a charity of their choice in Pete’s memory.

So sorry to hear about the passing of Mr. Kontes. I always enjoyed the smile on his face when I would stop to talk to him. I'm glad that I got to know him in the 10 years that I have been in the area. My thoughts and prayers go out to Mrs. Kontes and the rest of Pete's family.
