Alice Colleen Fielding

December 1, 1938 — February 10, 2016

Alice Colleen Ekstrom Fielding, 77, of Taylor, passed away on Wednesday, 10 February 2016, surrounded by her loving family.

Colleen was born to Eric and Melva Crockett Ekstrom on 1 December 1938 in Idaho Falls, Idaho.

She was the youngest of three children. At the age of 11 she moved from city life 8 miles away to the farm in the Jameston area.

Colleen never knew her father; he passed away when she was six months old. This changed the course of her life since her mother had to be the provider of the family and go to work full-time. She became close to her grandfather, since he would watch her during the day. He was the caretaker of Tautphaus Park, so she spent a lot of her childhood there with him. She also knew tragedy a few years later when she was 8 years old, and her brother and best friend Don drowned in the Snake River. This was devastating to her.

Colleen married her eternal companion and best friend Kenneth Paul Fielding in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple on 7 November 1958. They made their home in the Taylor area where she resided the rest of her life. They were blessed with five children, 13 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren. They all love her dearly and cannot wait to be with her again. She was the light of our family and was our role model, example, teacher, cheerleader, friend. We were so blessed and honored to call her mom and grandma. She had a great sense of humor and a quick wit. She was a spiritual giant, and the kindest person we knew. She wore herself out with her life of service and you walked away from her feeling better about yourself. She never met a stranger and loved all.

Mom was a great homemaker and enjoyed cooking, sewing and crafts. The great love of her life was music and she was an accomplished pianist. She was called as ward organist at 11 years old. She was a talented writer and her family enjoyed her teachings through her parables. She loved to travel and be with her family. Her greatest joy was being with her sweetheart and enjoying things they could do together.

Colleen was an active member of the LDS Church and served faithfully in many callings. She loved the gospel and one of the highlights of her life was serving a mission with her sweetheart in the London, England Mission.

Colleen had a deep and abiding testimony of the Savior and lived her life serving Him, her family and friends. She was preceded in death by her eternal sweetheart, Kenneth; parents, stepfather (Henry Poppy), and two brothers (Dean and Don). She is survived by her children; Lori Jan (Dale) Kotter; Paul K (Julie) Fielding, Julie Fielding, Jill Fielding, Amy Jo (Todd) Rea; 13 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 13, 2016 at the Taylor LDS Ward Meetinghouse (1101 East 1250 North). The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6:00 till 8:00 P.M. at Nalder Funeral Home (110 West Oak) in Shelley and Saturday morning from 9:30 till 10:30 A.M. at the church.  Burial will be in the Taylor Cemetery.
