Allan Robert Sollis

Allan Robert Sollis was born to his parents Sharon Thompson Sollis and Robert Paul Sollis, November 20, 1962. He was the first of five children to grace their home. As well he was the first grandchild born to Allan and Lorene Thompson, Ritta and Paul Sollis and the first great grandchild born to Lew and Ruth Cox. Needless to say he was very popular. He was born with beautiful red hair, probably inherited from his great grandmother Sollis and was later strawberry blonde. His happy and gentle nature and quickness to learn made Allan a huge hit in his new world.  He enjoyed it, to, as his world was filled with abounding love and many things to explore and do.

Allan grew strong and healthy in his parent's home and his surrounding home of Jameston where he was a 6th generation Idahoan and hard working farm boy. He took pleasure in raising and looking after his own sheep and assisting his dad in his ranching business.  He also enjoyed going to the mountains near Palisades with his Grandpa Allan to check on the sheepherders who tended grandpa's sheep in the Bear Creek and Elk Mountain areas near Palisades.  Allan would often stay back to work with the herders and the sheep for weeks at a time following these visits. Allan was an excellent horseman and would use his favorite horse Dolly to herd the sheep.  The herders appreciated his help.

When he was about 12 or 13 he decided he wanted to learn how to snow ski.   He taught himself and soon was parallel skiing.  A few years later he was hired as a strikebreaker for Golden Valley packers when he was still quite young.  He decided the job wasn't for him.  Allan was a kind and gentle man.

As Allan matured he became more involved with farming.  He loved working with machinery and could operate the best of them.  He later dry farmed for a number of years, which proved lucrative for him at times but other times not.

Allan married Jonna Lee Dye in June of 1978.  To their marriage they were blessed with two children Tristan and Scott Sollis.  Jonna and Allan were later divorced.  He then continued working for his dad and later worked intermittently for his Uncle Ted Thompson for a number of years.  Following this he began work for his dad again and Merril Hanny as an assistant mechanic, working approximately half year with one then the other, as seasons changed from warm to cold.  His work with each became his life time career.

On April 15, 1986 he and Kelly Owens were married.  Kelly has been the love of his life and has stood by him and cared for him during his ordeal of sickness.  He loved the times spent with Kelly and their dog Jack.  He also loved to fish, especially at Birch Creek and Bear Creek with Kelly by his side.

Is some ways Allan was like a diamond in the rough, sometimes stumbling and falling, as we all do but mostly weathering the ups and downs of life with dignity and grace and never giving up.  Allan was a recent graduate of the Bingham County Drug and Alcohol Court program, graduating with honors.  Allan was extremely proud of this accomplishment and his family was proud of him for achieving this honor.

Allan is survived by his children, Tristan and Scott Sollis, his father, Bob Sollis, Brothers, Todd, Ryan, and Justin Sollis and his sister, Susan Sollis Searle, his wife, Kelly and his extended family of many aunts and uncles and cousins.  Allan was preceded in death by his mother, Sharon Sollis, his grandparents, Allan and Lorene Thompson, Ritta and Paul Sollis, great grandparents, Ruth and Lew Cox and George and Sadie Thompson.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 11, 2013 at the Shelley South Stake Center (675 South Milton Ave.).  The family will receive friends Friday morning from 9:30 till 10:40 a.m. at the church. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Nalder Funeral Home in Shelley. Interment will be in the Taylor Cemetery.
