Alonzo Edwin Stoddard

November 25, 1928 — December 3, 2007

Alonzo Edwin Stoddard died of heart failure on December 3, 2007 at the Utah Valley Specialty Hospital in Provo, Utah.

Lon was born November 25, 1928 in Parker, Idaho, the sixth of ten children born to Annie Louisa Brown and Wyman Miner Stoddard. He grew up in St. Anthony, Idaho and graduated from St. Anthony High School in 1947.

Lon served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Northern States Mission after which he attended Ricks College, where he received his bachelor’s degree.  While working on a master’s degree at Utah State University, he met Eileen Frances Chamberlain, and on September 6, 1957 they were married in the Logan, Utah LDS Temple.  After Lon completed his master’s degree, the couple moved to Tabiona, Utah where they lived for two years. The Stoddards moved to their final home in Shelley, Idaho in August 1960.

Educated as a teacher, Lon taught History and English for 37 years, most of which was spent at the Shelley Jr. High School.

Lon was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many capacities. He was a faithful home teacher and enjoyed the families he visited.  Lon and Eileen served in the Oklahoma, Oklahoma City mission from September 2001 to September 2002, and loved the people they met there.  Lon was also an officiator in the Idaho Falls LDS temple for many years.

Survivors include Lon and Eileen’s three daughters: Lonette Stoddard, Provo, Utah, LeeAnn (Victor) Johnston, Ogden, Utah and Jeneal Stoddard, Brea, California; two sisters: Leone (Gene) Biorn, Ashton Idaho and Elaine (Delas) Munns, Archer, Idaho, a brother, Albert Stoddard, Farr West, Utah, five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
