Clayton Eugene Rich

April 8, 1931 — September 26, 2012

Clayton Eugene Rich of Shelley passed away in his home Wednesday, September 26, 2012 surrounded by his family.

Clayton was born April 8, 1931 in Rexburg, Idaho to Eugene Orson Rich and Lillian Transtrum Rich.  He grew up in Parker and graduated from South Fremont High School. He served an LDS mission in the Central Atlantic States and also served in the U.S. Army. Clayton attended Ricks College and Brigham Young University.

On September 4, 1953 he married his high school sweetheart, Barbra Rose of St. Anthony in the Salt Lake Temple. They settled in Idaho Falls and then in Shelley where they raised 5 children.

He has been an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and has served in many callings including bishoprics, High Council, and as Bishop of the Woodville 2nd Ward. He loved working with the youth especially in scouting and helped many young men earn their Eagle Scout Awards. He received the Silver Beaver Scouting Award in 1987.

Clayton was a successful businessman, entrepreneur and inventor. He was the owner of Intermountain Builders and Success Builders International for many years.

He was full of life and fun. He especially enjoyed fishing, hunting, fly-tying and faceting. He and his wife Barbra enjoyed traveling together and with friends. They also enjoyed many family get-to-gethers having fun with their children and grandchildren.

Survivors include his five children, son: Douglas Clayton Rich ,Windsor, CA; daughters: Raylene (Kent) Brinker, Shelley, ID; Alese (David) Arbon, Draper, UT; Arnae (Scott) Hillam, Shelley, ID; Jozette (Percy) Anderson, Shelley, ID. Also 17 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, sisters- Merlyn (Bud) Powell, Rigby, ID; DeAnn (Willard) Gardner, Provo, UT; brother- Dr. L. McKay (Sheila) Rich, Idaho Falls, ID;

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Barbra; father: Orson Eugene Rich, mother: Lillian Transtrum Rich.

We extend our sincere thanks to the many doctors, nurses, hospice caregivers and others who have helped with his treatment and care over the past few years.

A viewing will be held Sunday, September 30th, from 6 pm to 7:30 pm at Nalder Funeral Home in Shelley.  Funeral services will be held Monday, October 1st, at 11am at the LDS Woodville Chapel with a viewing beginning at 9:30 am. Burial will be at the Parker Cemetery at 3:00 p.m. with military rites.

Grandpa, you always made us laugh. You were so kind and generous to everyone. We love you and miss you. Give grandma a kiss for us.
