Darlene Beth Bolander

February 16, 1929 — August 20, 2013

Darlene Beth Humpherys Bolander was born February 16, 1929 in Firth, Idaho to Earl Humpherys and Beulah Grace Womack Humpherys.

She passed away August 20, 2013 in an accident while 4-wheeling.

She was 84 years old.

As a baby, and again as a toddler, Darlene had mastoid surgery.

It left her with severe hearing loss, which worsened during her lifetime.

She learned to lip-read to compensate for her hearing loss.

Though this was a source of frustration to her, she rarely complained.

Her mother died when she was six years old, and she was raised by her father, aunts and various housekeepers.

She attended schools in Firth, graduating from Firth High School in 1947.

Darlene married Vance Bentley Bolander in the Idaho Falls Temple on June 18, 1947.

They were blessed with seven children: Cathy Jensen of Meridian, Peggy Murray of Firth, Mark (Lanette) Bolander of Shelley, Kim (Susy) Bolander of Idaho Falls, Beverly (Michael) Marcum of Kaysville, UT; Joy (David) McKinnon of Firth, Sandy (Wally) Maxwell of Boise.

Darlene was a great support to her husband as he moved the family, which included 4 children, to Logan, Utah to attend college.

They returned to Firth 3 and a half years later with an electrical engineering degree and 5 children.

Darlene loved to spend time with family and friends.

She also enjoyed crocheting, knitting, gardening, card making, camping, and 4-wheeling.

Her home has always been a gathering place and she was happiest when surrounded by family.

After Vance’s retirement, he and Darlene served a mission to the New York-New York South mission where they enjoyed their work on Long Island and in Bermuda.

Darlene was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

She served in many positions including Relief Society Presidency, ward librarian, Primary teacher, and 8 years in the name extraction program.

Hers was a life of service to all around her.

Darlene is survived by her husband of 66 years, 7 children, a sister, Annette Brown, a brother, Keith Humpherys both of Ririe, 37 grandchildren and 50 great-grandchildren, with 3 more on the way.

She was preceded in death by her parents and three brothers.
