Dorothy Gaye Mann Flitton

Dorothy Gaye Pickering Mann Flitton, 81, of Shelley, passed away September 13, 2010 at the University Of Utah Hospital, peacefully surrounded by her family.

She was born July 20, 1929 at Randolph, Rich County, Utah to A. Owen and Lila Sprouse Telford.  She was raised in Randolph, Utah on a cattle Ranch.  She graduated fro South Rich High School.

In 1947 she moved to the Idaho Falls area.  She married William W. Pickering in 1948.  They later divorced.  In 1967 she married Jerry L Smith.  They later divorced.  In 1987 she married Forrest Mann.  He preceded her in death.  She married Vern Flitton in 2003.

Dorothy lived in Blackfoot, Ririe, Idaho Falls, Shelley, and Gray’s Lake.

In her early life, she worked at various restaurants in the area.  She worked at Stan’s Grill in Blackfoot for many years, where she received the award, “Waitress of the year” for the state of Idaho in 1960.  She worked as a Bonneville County Sheriff Deputy for 10 years and retired in 1985.  She also worked at her son’s business, Sunkiss Towing and Mechanical.  In 1984 and 1985 she attended Idaho State University majoring in Art.

Dorothy enjoyed art, writing poetry, and photography and won awards in all.  She loved to dance, was fond of painting and telling stories to her grandchildren.  She had a passion for the mountains with the wild flowers and always raised a flower garden and rose garden at her home.  She was an avid birder belonging to the Audubon Society and was an enthusiastic traveler having visited much of the word.

She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

She had a special place in her heart for her extended family and her nieces and nephews and many friends.

She is survived by her husband Vern Flitton of Shelley; sons, Craig A. (Vickie) Pickering and Bradley J (JoAnn) Pickering both of Idaho Falls; grandchildren, Tiffany, Melissa, Brandi Jo, Suzanne, Bobbie Lyn, Wyatt, Cordell, Zachary, and Tyler, five great grandchildren, step children, Deborah Flitton of Idaho Falls; David Flitton of San Diego, CA; Shari Crystal and Deanna Flitton both of Shelley, brothers, Roger (Darlene) Telford of Randolph, UT; Thane (Lilian) Telford of Mona, UT; and Laurel (Alena) Telford of Randolph, UT.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Forrest Mann, granddaughter, Jessica Pickering, and step granddaughter, Jessica Flitton.

Funeral Services will be 11:00 A.M. Friday September 17, 2010 at the Shelley First Ward Chapel (184 North Park Ave.). The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6:00 till 8:00 P.M. at Nalder Funeral Home (110 West Oak) in Shelley and Friday morning 9:30 till 10:45 before the services at the church.  Interment will be 11:00 A.M. Saturday in the Randolph, Utah Cemetery.
