Dorothy Jean Hansen

October 9, 1931 — November 27, 2011

Dorothy Jean Adams Hansen 80, of Shelley, passed away Sunday Nov. 27, 2011, at the Gables Assisted Living Center in Shelley.

Dorothy was born at home October 9, 1931 in Pocatello, ID, to George Clifton Adams and Norma Elizabeth Dahlquist Adams. She is the 7th of 8 children. She was raised and attended schools in Pocatello, with activities including playing the trumpet in band. She married her High School sweetheart Heber J. Hansen Jr. on March 25, 1949. Their marriage was solemnized in the Idaho Falls Temple on Feb. 25,1951. While living in Pocatello, a son, Larry and daughter, Amy were born.

Dorothy and Heber moved to California in 1953. She was involved in the community, church, and local schools and served as PTA president. While living there Sandy & Adam joined the family. In 1971 they left Southern CA and moved to Richmond UT. Dorothy worked as an aide at North Cache Jr. High. In 1976, they moved to Shelley, which became their permanent home. Dorothy worked as an aide at Goodsell Elementary, and embraced the role of grandma, including neighborhood and other kids into those she thought of as her grandkids.

Dorothy enjoyed camping & fishing with Heber and always looked forward to her yearly grandma-granddaughter camping trip. She loved watching the Utah Jazz & BYU basketball.

Serving others came so naturally, she was happiest while serving. Dorothy was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and served in many different callings, including as a services missionary with her husband in the Addiction Recovery Program. No matter where she served, she loved every moment.

Family was very important to her, which she always showed no matter how she was feeling, She always had a smile and open arms. Our family appreciates all of her love and support. She is a great example, we are proud to call her our mother, grandmother, aunt, cousin and friend. We love you mom.

Dorothy is survived by her children, Larry and Susan Hansen, Amy & Greg Gemar, of Shelley, Sandy & Chris McKnight of Cornish, Utah, Adam & Norine Hansen of Great Meadows, New Jersey. She is also survived by her brother Mike Adams of Ammon, many nieces, nephews and cousins, 21 grandchildren, 50 great grandchildren and 1 great, great grandchild. Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband Heber, a son in law S. Graig Lloyd, two great grandchildren, Kiersten Gemar & Josh Hansen, three sisters, Cleo, Norma and Dona and three brothers Roland, Jack and Wayne.
