Douglas Hugh Wells

March 11, 1936 — January 18, 2006

Douglas Hugh Wells, 69, of Shelley, Idaho, died January 18, 2006, at Eastern Idaho Medical Center of natural causes.

He was born March 11, 1936, to Dallas Tyler Wells and Doris Lucile Bowman Wells at the home of Percy and Rachel Bowman, his grandparents in Woodville, Idaho. He grew up in Woodville and lived in Shelley all his life. He attended grade school and high school in Shelley.

He joined Marines at age 17 and served in the Korean War. He was there when the Peace Treaty was signed.

On August 17, 1956 he married Barbara Gayle Albers at the home of Percy and Rachel Bowman at Woodville, Idaho. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. On May 24, 1965 Douglas and Barbara were sealed in The Idaho Falls LDS Temple. He worked for Yorgenson Construction, painted for his father, Dallas; and worked at R. T. French and Pillsbury for 30 years, retiring in 1995 for medical reasons.

He enjoyed hunting, camping and fishing. He also had a mule he loved to ride. Doug and Barbara enjoyed traveling. They flew to Chula Vista (San Diego) to visit Angie and Kevin and their family. They flew to Little Rock, Arkansas, and from there they drove to New Orleans, and back to Dallas Fort Worth. They drove to Olympia Washington to see Rusty (Verian) Wells, a cousin of Dallas. Doug and Barbara bought their motor home and enjoyed traveling down the Oregon Coast and enjoyed going up to Black Tail fishing and also to Island Park. After he got sick the motor home was sold. After this time he enjoyed being at Kurt and Jill's cabin at Island Park.

The joy of his life was going to his grandchildren's activities. He loved to watch the many football games played. Even in the cold weather you would find Doug bundled up in sleeping bags and rooting for the Shelley team his grandsons played on. What a thrill for him!

Survivors include his wife, Barbara of Shelley; three sons, Kevin Douglas, Steven Eugene (Natalie Jane), Kurt Lee (Jill Marie) all of Shelley; and two daughters, Kathryn Sue (Don J) Batemen of Shelley, and Angela Lou (Kevin) Voas of Chula Vista, California; his mother, Doris Wells of Woodville; two brothers, Gary Jan (Sharon Ann) and Jay Dallas (LeeAnn) of Woodville; three sisters, Janet Rae (Martin R.) VanTassel of Queensbury, N.Y., Joan (Kay LaVaune) Gneiting and Sharon Lee (Thomas Ray) Murdoch of New Sweden area; 16 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
