Elisabeth Schellenberg

Elisabeth Schellenberg, 83, of Shelley, passed away February 28, 2010 of natural causes at her home.

She was born May 12, 1926 in Burgdorf, Switzerland to Johann and Marie Ruchti Michel.  She attended the public schools and then went on to do an apprenticeship in sewing and tailoring.

On November 16, 1945 she married Albert Nephi Schellenberg in Bern, Switzerland.

She immigrated to the United States with her husband and two children in August of 1948.  They made their home in Salt Lake City, Utah where they were sealed in the Salt Lake temple.  She began to make every effort to read, write, and speak English in order to pass a citizenship test.  She loved America.

In 1959 she moved with her husband and five children to Shelley, Idaho.  She worked at the Shelley Rest Home caring for the aged.  In a short time she became the owner of the facility and continued in that field of work until she retired in 1986.

As an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, she served in various capacities.  She and her husband served two missions together; one to the Frankfurt, Germany temple and one to the Bern, Switzerland temple.

Survivors include her children, Albert T. (Kristine) Schellenberg of Highland, Utah; Louise E. (Shane) Pettingill of Shelley, Idaho; Martin L. (Karen) Schellenberg of Pleasant Grove, Utah; Denise R. Schellenberg of Shelley, Idaho; and Lily S. (Wil) Kolditz of Cathlamet, Washington; 30 grandchildren and 126 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Albert, a son, Parley, five brothers, Werner, Walter, Arnold, Karl, & Hans, three sisters, Lina, Marie, Gertrude, and a great granddaughter, Cheyenne.

Funeral Services will be 11:00 A.M. Saturday March 6, 2010 at the Jameston Ward Chapel (1101 East 1250 North). The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6:00 till 7:00 P.M. at Nalder Funeral Home (110 West Oak) in Shelley and Saturday 9:30 till 10:40 A.M. at the church.  Interment will be in the Shelley Hillcrest Cemetery.
