Evelyn Bright Shumway

July 15, 1924 — September 29, 2008

Evelyn Bright Shumway, 84, of Woodville, died Sept. 29, 2008 at Idaho Falls. 

She was born July 15, 1924 at Weston, Idaho to Laron “A” Bright and Elna Armina Skidmore Bright. She attended school in Linrose and Preston and graduated from Preston High School in 1942. She completed four years of seminary. After graduation, she worked as a bookkeeper for Peterborg Chevrolet in Preston and Lundberg Motor Company in Logan, Utah.

On Jan. 19, 1945, she married Dean Hymas Shumway in Logan, Utah LDS Temple.  Following their marriage, they moved to their farm in Woodville, where she has lived 63 years. 

She served as a Pink Lady for the Idaho Falls LDS Hospital for 17 years contributing over 3,000 hours of service. She served as an officer in the Bingham County Farm Bureau. 

An active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she served on the MIA stake board, as ward MIA president, counselor, secretary, sports director and attended girls camp as a leader for 16 years.  Other service included Relief Society Counselor and visiting teacher, Primary President and teacher, and as the Bishop’s Secretary.  She served with her husband as a temple officiator in the Idaho Falls Temple for 16 years. 

She radiated a special warmth about her which drew people to her and especially endeared her family and friends.

Survivors include her children: Laron Dean (LouAnn) Shumway of Idaho Falls, Scott Bright (Susan) Shumway of Tucson, Ariz., Lynette (Roger) Draper of Woodville, and Sherry (David) Russell of Bluffdale, Utah; two sisters, Venice Bell Wood of Roy, Utah; Shirley (LaMar) Baird of Kaysville, Utah; 19 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband on Oct. 15, 1998; one sister Elna B. Larsen and one brother, Laron Donald Bright.

Funeral services will be on 11 a.m. Friday, October 3, 2008 at the Woodville First Ward, 1555 N. 700 E., with Bishop Kris Kelley conducting. The family will meet with friends Oct. 2 from 7:00 until 8:30 p.m. at Nalder Funeral Home, 110 W. Oak Street, in Shelley and Friday morning 9:30 a.m. till 10:40 at the church.  Burial will be in the Woodville Cemetery.
