Forrest Hyrum Nulph

September 25, 1926 — March 2, 2015

Forrest Hyrum Nulph, 88, of Shelley passed away peacefully on March 2, 2015 at his daughter’s home in Idaho Falls.

Forrest Hyrum Nulph was born in Shelley, Idaho on September 25, 1926 to Forrest Raymond and Ivie Louisa Bateman Nulph.

His father died when he was 1 ½ years old.

He was the second child of three, his sister, Marcella Barton and his brother, Emmett Nulph, both of Shelley are still living.

He grew up south of Shelley on a farm.

Those days were filled with learning to work, playing with cousins and lots of fun.

In the year 1945, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and served his country.

He was sent to Japan and while there was enlisted as a cook in the Army.

He liked to cook breakfast and popcorn for his children and grandchildren.

After his service in the Army, he was called to serve an LDS mission to the North Central States Mission.

On June 10, 1952, he married Bonnie Jean DeLaMare from Pocatello, Idaho, after meeting her on a blind date.

They were married in the Idaho Falls Temple.

They have seven children.

They lost their little boy, Alan, at age 4 ½ to transposition of the great vessels, which was a birth defect in the heart.

He worked hard hauling milk for Challenge Creamery for the first few years of marriage.

Then in 1957, he and his brother, Emmett got a contract with R.T. French Company to haul potatoes and Nulph Bros. Trucking Company was established.

He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

He served with his wife in the Pennsylvania, Harrisburg Mission and at the Idaho Falls LDS Temple Visitor’s Center as missionaries.

He has served in various callings in the church, including the bishopric and stake high council.

He is a very thoughtful, kind hearted and loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather.

He was very generous with his time, talents and means to help others.

He loved having a vegetable garden, doing woodworking, and mowing his lawn with his Dixon lawnmower.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Bonnie and son, Alan Wilford.

He is survived by his children, Claudia (Nolan) Clayson of Firth; Shirley (Byard) Cox of Idaho Falls; Max (Sandra) Nulph of Firth; Todd (Janet) Nulph of Shelley; Peggy (Bruce) Cook of Shelley; and Lynn Nulph of Idaho Falls; 23 grandchildren and 50 great grandchildren.

A special thanks to Aspen Home Health and Hospice especially to Kris, Sara, and Verla for their compassion and kindness to our father.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 9, 2015 at the Shelley South Stake Center (675 South Milton Ave.).

The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 6:00 till 8:00 P.M. at Nalder Funeral Home (110 West Oak) in Shelley and Monday morning from 9:30 till 10:40 A.M. at the church. Burial will be in the Shelley Hillcrest Cemetery with military rites by David B. Bleak Post 93.
