Fred Richard Blom

December 29, 1931 — November 6, 2018

Fred Richard Blom, of Leadore, Idaho, passed away peacefully on Nov. 6, 2018 in Idaho Falls.

He was born on Dec. 29, 1931 in Leadore to Anna Blom and Adrian Blom, the youngest of five children.

He graduated from Leadore High School where he was active in several sports.

He married Marian Priel Fletcher on March 3, 1952 in Salmon.

He joined the Army shortly after getting married and served his country in the Korean Conflict. After an honorable discharge he continued his education at Idaho State University in Pocatello and Utah State University in Logan, Utah, eventually settling his family in Shelley, Idaho.

He was an active member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), the Lions Club and the Shelley Volunteer Fire Department.

After his retirement from the Idaho Department of Highways, he and his wife returned to their roots, moving back to Leadore for their retirement years.

Family and friends were always encouraged to visit and stay as long as they could. Fred was an excellent cook, and enjoyed "Jeeping" with anyone who wanted a closer look at the beautiful mountains and lakes around Leadore.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years; daughters Crystal (Robert) Foster and Elaine Blom, both of Shelley; sons Sam Blom of Leadore, Ben Blom of Idaho Falls and Max (Dodi) Blom of Rigby; 10 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

His parents and siblings preceded him in death.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Nalder Funeral Home in Shelley.
