Freda C. Leatham

Freda C. Leatham, 99, formerly of Shelley, passed away June 17, 2008 at The Gables Assisted Living Center in Ammon.

She was born October 31, 1908 at Greenfield, Missouri to Samuel E. and Bertha Rose Johnson.  She started school in a one-room school in Greenfield.  When she was eight years old, she moved west with her family.  Freda graduated from Taysom School Eighth Grade in 1924 and then attended Shelley High School, graduating in 1928.

After graduating from high school, Freda worked several jobs in Shelley and Idaho Falls.  In 1930 she met William G. Leatham when she and a friend asked him to take them for a ride in his new car.  They were married on December 23, 1930 in Idaho Falls.

She worked on the family farm, in a potato packing warehouse, and at Crooks Saving Center grocery store for 20 years.

Freda attended Methodist revival services in Shelley and joined the Shelley Methodist Church in 1925, where she was a lifetime member. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary for 75 years and Shelley Study and Culture Club.  She was also prominent in the Shelley Senior Citizens until relocating to The Gables.

She was very accomplished in embroidery and crocheting.

Freda went through her life making positive impressions on all she came into contact with but she will be mostly missed by her family.

She is survived by one son, Jerald (Zona) Leatham of Idaho Falls; one daughter, Myrna Osterhaut of Boise; one sister, Betty Loveland of Idaho Falls, seven grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one son, three brothers, and two sisters.

Funeral Services will be 11:00 A.M. Saturday June 21, 2008 at the Shelley United Methodist Church, 190 South Holmes Ave.  The family will receive friends Saturday morning 9:30 till 10:45 at the church.  Burial will be in the Shelley Hillcrest Cemetery under the direction of Nalder Funeral Home in Shelley.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to the Shelley United Methodist Church, 190 South Holmes Ave., Shelley, Idaho  83274.
