Gary J. Wells

Gary Jan Wells, 84, of Woodville, ID died June 11th 2021 in Idaho Falls, ID at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center after sustaining a stroke one week prior. He was under the care of Aspen Hospice.

He was born March 16th 1937, in Woodville, ID, the son of Dallas Tyler Wells and Doris Lucile Bowman, at the home of his grandparents, Rachel and Percy Bowman. He was the second of six children. He was raised in Woodville, ID. He attended school in Shelley and later obtained his GED. He enjoyed and excelled at boxing during high school.

On July 13th 1956, he married Sharon Ann Lee at the old Woodville Church. They were married for 62 years. They were blessed with five children: Stacey Lee Wells, Gary Scott Wells, Cynthia Jane Wells, Dianna Ruth Wells, and Cassie Lynn Wells. His beloved wife, Sharon, died October 8th 2018.

Gary joined the Air Force shortly after getting married. He was a jet mechanic. He attended basic training and schooling in Texas. He also served at the Air Force base in Arizona and Guam. He served his country for two years.

Gary worked as a union and residential painter in Oregon and Idaho. He even had the opportunity to work with his father and brother after moving back to Idaho. Gary’s last job was at State Hospital South in Blackfoot, ID. He worked in the maintenance department for about twenty years.

Gary enjoyed gardening, leather making, camping, four-wheeling, and spending time with his family. Gary always had plenty of tomatoes to give away. Gary also enjoyed growing pumpkins and giving them away in the fall to his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include his children: Cindy Burgess of Idaho Falls, Diane (Kenny) Williams of Blackfoot, and Cassie Wells of Woodville; one brother and three sisters, Jay (Lee Ann) Wells of Woodville, Janet VanTassel of Queensbury, NY, Joan Gneiting of St. George, UT, and Sharon (Tom) Murdoch of Woodville, 17 grandchildren and 48 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife Sharon Ann Lee; daughter Stacey Lee Morgan; son Gary Scott Wells; parents Dallas Tyler and Doris Lucile Wells; brother Douglas Hugh Wells.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00am Saturday, June 19, 2021 at the Shelley Hillcrest Cemetery with military rites. The family will receive friends Saturday from 9:30 till 10:30 am at Nalder Funeral Home, 110 Oak Street in Shelley.
