Ivy Rose Cousin

December 27, 1921 — July 25, 2007

Iva Rose Poll Cousin, 85, of Shelley, died July 25, 2007 of causes incident to age at the Turtle and Crane Residential Care Center in Idaho Falls. She was under the care of  Creekside Home Health and Hospice.

Rose Cousin was born December 27, 1921 in Idaho Falls to Charles Clive and Rose Iva Field Poll.  She was the granddaughter of Nauvoo pioneers, Joseph Henry Field and Sarah Hannah Bradshaw of Grant, Idaho.

Rose attended Riverside and Eastside Elementary Schools and Central Junior-Senior High School in Idaho Falls.

She married Winfield Ardell “Dell” Cousin on August 23, 1940 in  Idaho Falls.  Their marriage was solemnized in the Idaho Falls Temple on April 8, 1954.  Rose and Dell were blessed with a daughter, Valerie Jean and a son, David Ardell.  With the exception of a brief period in Seaside, OR, Rose and Dell were life-long Shelley residents.

Rose was employed at the Production Credit Association for many years.  Later, she was the housing management assistant for the Naval Housing Division in Idaho Falls.  In 1979, Rose was chosen from a field of 15 federal employees as “Employee of the Year”.  She was responsible for housing approximately 2000 military personnel each year, often acting as a mediator between tenants and landlords.  She was praised for her calm patience, wisdom and diplomacy.

A member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Rose taught Primary, Sunday School and was a Visiting Teacher.   She also belonged to the Toastmistress Guild, a part of the national Toastmaster’s Guild.  Upon retirement, Rose and Dell wintered with their motor home in Nevada and Arizona.  Later, they purchased motor scooters and could be seen traveling the back roads around Shelley.  Rose loved driving to Island Park or Yellowstone to enjoy the beauty of the outdoors.  She loved to garden, read, and visit with friends and family.  Though she will be missed, her family is pleased that she is now healthy and happy to be with family and friends that have preceded her.

Rose is survived by her daughter, Valerie (Reynold) Rollins of St. George, UT., her son, David (Jeanette) Cousin of  Idaho Falls, and her sister, Barbara Jean Poll Hanks of Shelley.  She also leaves 6 grandchildren, Rachel Cousin of Washington, D.C.; Eric (Dani) Cousin of Orem, UT; David (Amy) Cousin of Salt Lake, UT; Sara (Todd) Spaulding and Pamela and Megan Cousin of Idaho Falls.  Great-grandchildren Lydia, Luke and Marjorie Cousin of Orem; Jace & Mason Cousin of  Salt Lake City, UT; and Taylor Spaulding  of Layton, UT.

The family will greet friends from 9:30 – 10:30 A.M. Saturday, July 28, at Nalder Funeral Home (110 West Oak) in Shelley.  Private graveside services will follow at the Hillcrest Cemetery in Shelley.

The family wishes to thank the staff at Turtle and Crane for their dedicated service and loving care during Rose’s residence there.  They are equally appreciative of the hospice care given by Creekside Home Health and Hospice.
