Jay E. Johnson

Jay E. Johnson, 63, of Shelley, passed away August 31, 2006 at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center in Idaho Falls from encephalitis and meningitis.            

He was born January 3, 1943 in Ogden, Utah to Willis Johnson and Jean Derricott Johnson. He moved with his family to Shelley in the early fifties. He attended school in Firth and Shelley and graduated from Shelley High School in 1961.            

He was partners with his dad and his brother in a trucking business. He married his high school sweetheart Janna Barnett in October of 1962, they were later divorced, but remained good friends, and they had 3 children. He married Cheryl Carlson November 6, 1982 in Winnemucca, Nevada. He continued being self employed in the trucking business and enjoyed his life on the farm with his horses, pigs and cattle. He also had a landscaping business with his family.            

He enjoyed camping with his family and especially his grandchildren, were some of his favorite times.            

He is survived by his wife Cheryl Johnson of Shelley; children JaNae (Kevin) Fielding, daughter, Jill (Nick) Mains, daughter and Jason (Kelly) Johnson all of Shelley. Shawn (Karen) Hernandez step-son of Rigby and Charlotte (Jim) Wasia stepdaughter of Wapello; Siblings Don (Alma) Johnson, Bette (Allen) Ball and Blake (Linda) Johnson all of Shelley. 3 Grandchildren and 14 step grandchildren. He was preceded in death by parents.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 A. M. Monday September 4th at Nalder Funeral Home (110 West Oak) in Shelley. The family will receive friends Sunday evening 6:00 till 7:30 P.M. and Monday morning 9:30 till 10:40 A.M. at Nalders. Burial will be in the Shelley Hillcrest Cemetery.
