Jay Henry Dye

June 22, 1948 — November 11, 2006

Jay Henry Dye, 58, peacefully passed away surrounded by his family on Saturday, November 11, 2006, at Madison Memorial Hospital after a battle with cancer.  He will be remembered for his faith, kindness, sense of humor and the musical talents he shared.

Jay was born June 22, 1948 to Warren and Florence Hacking Dye in Idaho Falls, ID.  He grew up in Firth, ID, and graduated from Firth High School.

On May 25, 1968 he married Valeta Merkley in the Idaho Falls Temple.

Jay was an active member of the LDS church. He served in many church callings including Bishop of the Riverview Ward.  At the time of his death, he was serving in the Presidency of the Firth Stake.  He was a life long scout and attended Woodbadge as a participant and staff leader and also attended Philmont.  The ole “Fox” worked his ticket back to Gilwell, “Happy Land.”

Jay was employed as the Transportation Director for the Firth School District for 29 years.  He also served as a volunteer on the Firth Fire Department for 22 years.  For several years Jay participated in the Firth Community Musicals.       

Jay is survived by his wife of 38 years, Valeta Merkley Dye and by his children, Travis (Adele) Dye of Rexburg, Lyle (Melanie) Dye of Richland, WA, Ryan (Keri) Dye of Boise, Robb (Keiko) Dye of Pocatello, RaNell (Seth) King of Boise, and Adam (Brittnee) Dye of Shelley.  He leaves behind 20 grandchildren.  He is also survived by his siblings Roger (Rosa) Dye of Firth, Martha Harker of Orem, UT, Joyce Dye of Idaho Falls, LaNell (Don) Wainright of Darlington, Myrna Ard of Firth, Julie (Ken) Munger of Firth, and Robert (Nancy) Dye of Orofino.  He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 A. M. Saturday November 18th at the Firth Stake Center (823 North 675 East) in Basalt. The family will receive friends Friday evening 5:30 till 8:30 P.M at Nalder Funeral Home (110 West Oak) in Shelley and Saturday morning 9:30 till 10:40 A.M. at the church. Burial will be in the Firth Cemetery.
