Jennie Idonna Ockerman

January 14, 1929 — May 15, 2007

Idonna Ockerman, 78, passed away May 15, 2007 following an extended illness and stroke.

Idonna was born to Lewis Clyde Eaton and Laura Irene Franck in Shelley, Idaho on January 14, 1929.  She grew up in the Basalt area and attended school at Firth High School.  She met her sweetheart Vern Ockerman and was married on July 25, 1945 in the Logan Utah Temple.  

Idonna lived at home with her parents and six sisters while Vern was serving in Guam during WWII in the U.S. Navy.  Upon his return, Vern and Idonna farmed and worked in the Firth area.  Idonna was a homemaker and worked various jobs including a teacher’s aid at the Firth School District where she made many good friends.  She loved being a homemaker and raising a family of six.

Her hobbies included gardening, raising flowers, reading and camping with Vern and her family.  Idonna and Vern were active LDS members and enjoyed frequent Temple visits.

Survivors include her children, Steven Ockerman of Downey, Dennis Ockerman of Shelley, Janice (Craig) Peterson & Jerald Ockerman both of Idaho Falls, Kristy (Dennis) Whitmill of Ammon, Brad Ockerman of Richmond, UT, 16 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.  She is also survived by six sisters, Doris Gentillon of Firth, Joyce Ringer of Utah, Clydene Collet of Firth, Barbara Jensen of Shelley, Afton Reeder of Firth and Sharon Brantley of Arizona.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and one brother.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 A.M. Saturday May 19th at Nalder Funeral Home (110 West Oak) in Shelley.  The family will receive friends Friday evening from 7:00 till 8:30 P.M. and Saturday morning 10:00 till 10:40 also at the funeral home.  Burial will be in the Shelley Hillcrest Cemetery.
