Kenneth Maynard Berthelson

September 18, 1932 — September 29, 2008

Kenneth Maynard Berthelson, 76, of Shelley passed away September 29, 2008 at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center.

He was born September 18, 1932 in Shelley to Maynard Francis and Flossie Janet Millar Berthelson.

On July 18, 1952 he married Deon Draper in Idaho Falls.  He served in the U.S. Army form May 1953 to May 1955 in Fort Lewis, WA, Korea, and Japan.  While in the service he attended Combat Construction Specialist Training.

In 1955 he started with Bingham Mechanical and Metal Products in Idaho Falls.  In 1986 he acquired the remaining shares of stock from Bingham Mechanical making him sole owner.  In 1997 he sold the company and retired.

Following retirement he and Deon enjoyed wintering in Mesquite, NV.  He was a life long fisherman and hunter.  He enjoyed the Island Park area and outdoors, camping, snowmobiling, and spending time with friends and family.  He also enjoyed the company of his best companion, “Rusty”, his Pomeranian.

He was an active member of the Shelley Lions Club and served as president for many years.

He is survived by three daughters, Vickie L. (Mike) Arpin of Idaho Falls; Tracy A. (Dale) Clark of Shelley; and Lori R. (Rich) Lawrence of Idaho Falls; one son, Shawn L. (Janaye) Berthelson of Idaho Falls; siblings, Beverly Grover of Idaho Falls; Karen (Dave) Mast of White Hall, MT; Cleon (Sheila) Berthelson of Shalimar, FL; and Robert Berthelson of Shelley, eight grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, daughter, Kathy Jo, brother, Basil and Rusty.

The family will receive friends Friday October 3, 2008 from 10:00 till 11:30 A.M. at Nalder Funeral Home (110 West Oak) in Shelley with graveside services immediately following at the Shelley Hillcrest Cemetery.  Military Rites will be performed by the American Legion Post 93 of Shelley.
