Leonard "Spike" Berk Barnett

July 5, 1946 — March 18, 2006

Spike Barnett passed away on Saturday, March 18th, 2006 at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center. After battling many complications for three months he succumbed to respiratory failure.

Spike was born in Payson, Utah on July 5th, 1946 to Berk and Peggy Barnett. He grew up in Taylor, Idaho and graduated from Shelley High School.

Spike held the office of an Elder in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He joined the Army reserves and trained in North Carolina. Spike was an extremely patriotic man and had a deep love for his country and for those who served it. He was a dedicated donator to and supporter of various veterans’ organizations.

On November 25th, 1966 he married Teena Waite in the Idaho Falls Temple. They were later divorced in 1968.

On November 24th, 1972 he married Kristine Young. They were married for 10 years, divorcing in 1982. Spike and Kris remained lifelong friends. They had two children, Brandy in 1974 and Brady in 1976.

He was employed by Nulph’s as a truck driver. However, he spent the majority of his life employed by Burgraff Construction. He worked there for over 20 years running their hot plant until the business was sold.

Spike’s greatest joy came from spending time outdoors hunting and fishing. His favorite camping and fishing spot was the Blackfoot River. He spent many happy days there floating the river, camping and fishing with friends and family. Some say he knew the fish there by name. He loved to bowl and won many trophies and pins. He was an avid reader, especially of Louis L’Amour novels. He loved to watch, read, and talk about sports. He loved time spent with his children, family, and friends.

Spike, we will remember you and miss you everyday. Your family is in awe at the strength and courage you showed during this great battle. We will forever be inspired by the qualities of hope, optimism, faith and love you showed us. We remain so proud of you and so thankful that we were able to share this walk through life with you.
