Lloyd Frederick Kearney

September 9, 1922 — August 10, 2011

Lloyd Frederick Kearney, 88, of Shelley, Idaho passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 10, 2011 at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center in Idaho Falls.

He was born in St. Anthony, Idaho on September 9, 1922 to Thomas Frederick Kearney and Bertha Mae Bowman Kearney.  He was the first of four children and the only boy.  Lloyd spent several of his early years in California in the Long Beach-San Diego areas.  He attended elementary school in Iona.  During his teens, he attended and ultimately graduated from Idaho Falls High School in 1941.  Upon graduation he began his education at Weiser Trade School.  In December of that year, war was declared with Germany.  Lloyd was one of the first twenty-year-olds drafted.  He served our country in Germany and didn’t return home until March 1946.

On June 2, 1948, Lloyd married Ilene Christensen in Shelley, Idaho where they resided for most of their married life.  He worked for many years at Montgomery Ward (where he met his wife!) in Idaho Falls after which he worked at Purina for several years.  He completed his career as a supply manager for Pillsbury in Shelley.

Lloyd is survived by his five children:  Pat (Sherry) Kearney, Gail Kearney, Virginia Hansen, Joyce (Tracy) Christensen, and Kerrie (Sean) O’Brady.  He is also survived by 12 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.  Lloyd was preceded in death by his lovely wife Ilene, his beloved grandson Troy Christensen, and his wonderful son-in-law Richard Hansen.  He was also preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Peggy Kearney and Lois Ritchie.

Graveside services will be held Monday, August 15, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at the Shelley Hillcrest Cemetery.  Prior to that, a viewing will be held 10:00 to 10:30 a.m. at Nalder Funeral Home at 110 West Oak Street in Shelley. Military rites will be preformed by the David B. Bleak Post 93 of Shelley assisted by the Idaho Honor Guard.
