Margaret Anne Hanson

Margaret Anne Woodard Hanson, 78, of Shelley passed away December 21, 2013 at Lincoln Court under the care of Hearts of Hospice.

Margaret was born May 6, 1935 in El Paso, Texas, to John Wesley Woodard and Susie Mae Germany Woodard. She was the youngest of 4 children.

She attended schools in Texas, Oregon, and Idaho; graduating from Boise High School in 1953. She attended Texas State Women’s College and the University of Idaho. She received her Bachelor’s Degree from Idaho State University in May, 1981 and taught Consumer Economics in Rockland, Idaho for a short time.

While attending the University of Idaho she met Robert Poole Hanson. They were married June 11, 1955, in Boise, Idaho. Their marriage was solemnized in the Washington D.C. Temple on February 8, 1975.

She was a member of the LDS Church, serving in many positions in the Primary and Relief Society.

She was a natural homemaker. She loved to sew, to garden, and to cook. Her sewing abilities were greatly admired. She loved her family and was very devoted to them and will be missed very much by them all.

During her husband’s naval career, they lived in California, Japan, Rhode Island and Virginia. After Bob’s retirement as a Lt Cmdr in the U.S. Navy, in 1975 they returned to Idaho and moved to Goshen, where she resided until the time of her death.

She is survived by her husband, Bob of 58 years, of Shelley, Idaho; 4 children, Col. Robert Michael (Lynne) Hanson, U.S.M.C., of Boise, Idaho; Shannon (Randy) Robinson of Idaho Falls, Idaho; Mary (Kevin) Buckner of Highland, Utah; and Melissa Hanson of Salmon, Idaho; 1 sister; 14 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, a sister and a great granddaughter.

The family of Margaret Hanson will greet friends from 6:30pm to 8:00pm on Friday, December 27,

2013 at Nalder Funeral Home (110 W. Oak) in Shelley and from 9:30am to 10:40am on Saturday morning at the Goshen Ward LDS church, (792 N. 1090 E. Shelley, Idaho). Services will be held at the Goshen Ward church at 11am on Saturday, December 28, 2013. Burial will be at the Goshen Cemetery.
