Reid Warren Smith, 83, of Firth, passed away October 6, 2006 at his home.      

Reid was born November 23, 1922, the son of Heber J Smith & Matilda Mickelsen Smith.  He was raised in Draper, Utah.  He was the 4th of 5 children. 

After graduation from Jordan High School, May 23, 1941, he attended the University of Utah, majoring in English & Languages until he was drafted into the military.  He served in the Navy from April 4, 1945 through August 2, 1946 & received an honorable discharge. 

He served in the French Mission for the LDS Church from February 26, 1947 through September 15, 1949.  

After returning home from his mission he married Iris Adaire Jones of Raymond, Alberta, Canada in the Alberta Temple, Cardston, Canada, December 8, 1949.  They made their home in Draper, Utah, where he farmed with his father until they purchased a ranch & moved to Nounan, Idaho.  

In April of 1976 he moved his family to Firth, Idaho after selling the ranch in Nounan.  He farmed, and then worked for the LDS Church as a custodian.  

Reid enjoyed spending time with family, writing, playing the organ, gardening, & working outside.  He was an avid scholar of the scriptures.  

An active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, he served in various positions, most recently as 1st counselor in Kimball Ward Bishopric.  He & his wife enjoyed attending the Idaho Falls Temple weekly.  

Reid is survived by his wife of 56 years & eleven children;  Brian (Clari) Smith of Anchorage, AK, Nancy (Terry) Hopkins of Battle Mountain, NV, Kent (Joan) Smith of Wasilla, AK, Drew (Holly) Smith of Anchorage, AK, Paula (Gary) Lund of Anchorage, AK, Denise (Paul) Welch of Farmington, UT, Denae Smith of Phoenix, AZ, Bruce (Allison) Smith of Anchorage, AK, Colette (Jeff) Hansen of Springville, UT, Cory (CoLene) Smith of Palmer, AK, & Rachelle (Kelly) Christensen of Afton, WY, 53 grandchildren & 17 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother & two sisters.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 A. M. Monday October 9th at the Kimball Ward Chapel (744 North 600 East) in Firth with Bishop Bruce Anthony conducting.  The family will receive friends Sunday evening 6:00 till 8:00 P.M at Nalder Funeral Home (110 West Oak) in Shelley and Monday morning 9:30 till 10:40 A.M. at the church. Burial will be in the Firth Cemetery. Military Rites will be performed by Stewart Hoover Post #23. 

In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to the Perpetual Education Fund of the LDS Church.
