Rex Leroy Madsen

January 4, 1957 — May 27, 2011

Rex Leroy Madsen, aka Big Man, the son of Carol and LeRoy Madsen, was born January 4, 1957. At the age of 54, he passed away peacefully at his home on Friday May 27, 2011.

He grew up and attended school in the Shelley/Firth area. He later received his GED from EITC. He served in the United States Navy, and worked twenty-three years at Idaho Supreme.

Rex met his wife Darla in high school. They got married in Basalt, November 5, 1977 and were sealed in the Idaho Falls Temple November 3, 1978. They made their home in Idaho Falls, where they raised eight children.

Rex was a hard working man, who loved his family, and loved spending time with his family whenever he had the chance. He loved to go camping and hunting (even if he didn't catch anything, which was most of the time). He loved cars (Corvettes), motorcycles (Harleys), playing in the garage with his "toys", reading, his music loud, talk show radio, cooking and inventing scary creations in the kitchen, to go for long drives to see the scenery and watch the leaves change color. Rex was a member of Toastmasters, where he won speech competitions. He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, where he held many positions.

He is survived by his wife Darla: sons, Derrick (Lorna) of Carson City, NV, Scott of Idaho Falls, ID, Michael (Kynwynn) of Idaho Falls, ID: daughters, Jennifer Hokanson (Aaron) of Idaho Falls, ID, Elizabeth Wampler (Clint) of Shelley, ID, Kyra of Lone Tree, CO, Cali of Shelley, ID, Tenyka of Idaho Falls, ID, 18 grandchildren, his father of Shelley, ID, and four brothers.

He is preceded in death by his mother, his brother, and granddaughter.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday June 3, 2011 at the Idaho Falls North Stake Center (955 Memorial Drive).  The family will receive friends Friday morning from 9:30 till 10:40 at the church. Burial will be in the Firth Cemetery with military rites by David B. Bleak Post 93 assisted by the Idaho Honor Guard. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Nalder Funeral Home in Shelley.
