Robert Alma Layton

July 14, 1966 — March 7, 2011

Robert Alma Layton 44 passed away peacefully in his sleep March 7, 2011 in Pocatello Idaho.

He was born July 14, 1966 in Orange County, California and joined the family of Richard Harold and Marva Christiansen Layton in Taylor, Idaho a week later. Robert attended school in Shelley, Idaho and later obtained his GED through Eastern Idaho Technical College.

He started his work experience around the family farm and later worked for the Dole company in Lanai, Hawaii as a pineapple picker as a teen. He later worked in the Job Corp in Washington and as a Certified Nursing Assistant caregiver in Idaho Falls and Salt Lake City, Utah. He settled on a career as a long haul trucker and lived in Utah and Pennsylvania. He retired from trucking due to health issues and returned to Idaho, living in the Pocatello area until his death.

"Uncle Robert" was loved by his grandson, nieces and nephews. They looked forward to his visits and were very saddened by his passing. He took care of his mother, assisting her with upkeep of her home, yard work, painting and plumbing. We loved his stories about truck driving and the people he knew and places he had been. He visited Hawaii later in life and always loved to travel.

Robert is survived by his mother, Marva Layton of Taylor, Idaho; and his brothers, Monte R. Layton of Ammon, Idaho; and Chris (Susan) Layton of Taylor, Idaho. He is also survived by his son, Sean Layton of Nevada and a grandson.

He was preceded in death by his sister Merilee in 2004 and his father in 2006.

Memorial services will be 11:00 A.M. Monday March 14, 2011 at Nalder Funeral Home (110 West Oak) in Shelley. The family will receive friends Monday morning for one hour prior to the services.  Inurnment will follow in the Taylor Cemetery.
