Ross Sterling Cheney

August 12, 1933 — June 20, 2009

Ross Sterling Cheney, 75, long time resident of Shelley, passed away June 20, 2009 at Beacon Hospital and Rehabilitation Center in Pocatello.

He was born on August 12, 1933 in Laketown, Utah to Ross Simon and Elma Weston Cheney. He graduated from Rich High School in Laketown and attended Utah State University where he studied agriculture.

He served a full time mission in the 1950’s to the Eastern States Mission (Roanoke, Virginia) for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

Sterling worked hauling cattle and for Bingham County Road and Bridge until his retirement in 1994.

He married Coral Christensen in the Idaho Falls Temple in 1957.

He is survived by five children, Janalyn (Steve) Jett of Caldwell; Russell Cheney of Idaho Falls; Valeen (Eric) Nelson of Shelley; Lane (Dawn) Cheney of Roanoke, Virginia; Evan Cheney of Firth; 9 grandchildren, one great grandchild, and one brother, Mark Cheney of Laketown, Utah.

Sterling was preceded in death by his wife Coral, one brother, John, one sister, Connie, and an infant daughter, Ann.

Funeral Services will be 11:00 A.M. Thursday June 25, 2009 at the Goshen Ward Chapel (792 North 1090 East). The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 7:00 till 8:30 P.M. at Nalder Funeral Home (110 West Oak) in Shelley and Thursday 9:00 till 10:40 A.M. before the services at the church. Interment will be in the Goshen Cemetery.
