Sonja Marie Quigg

January 11, 1945 — November 1, 2013

Sonja Marie Tew Quigg passed away unexpectedly at her daughter’s home on Friday, November 1, 2013 due to natural causes.

Sonja was the third of ten, beautiful children born to loving parents, Rodney Warren and Noma Christensen Tew; she was born in Idaho Falls, Idaho on January 11, 1945. While growing up, Sonja had the opportunity to experience life in several different towns including Roberts, Goshen, and lastly, Firth, Idaho. After the family had settled in Goshen, Idaho, Sonja attended school and graduated from Firth High School in 1964.

Following their meeting at a church dance, and after a successful courtship, Sonja married her eternal companion, Lawrence “Larry” Erskine Quigg (of Shelley, Idaho) on June 16, 1978 in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. Sonja and Larry shared a loving home in Idaho Falls that they hoped desperately to fill with the love and laughter of many, small children. After suffering loss and hardship together, and after Larry and Sonja had made the choice to adopt a child into their loving home, Sonja discovered she was pregnant and to this union, came a beautiful daughter, Allison Marie – born on November 16, 1984. Although Allison would be the only child born to the couple, she was given all the love the couple had hoped to share with a “dozen” children.

Sonja enjoyed many things in life; however, it was the small things that always meant the most to her. She loved small trinkets and everything she was given, held some sort of sentimental value to her. Sonja was a devoted daughter, sister, wife, Mother, friend and active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

Sonja often showed her appreciation by cooking and baking for her friends and family, or by sharing homegrown fruits and vegetables with others. Sonja enjoyed beadwork and making necklaces amongst many other hobbies and activities. Spending time with her precious family watching movies, trying to figure out the plot behind a murder mystery show, playing cards, and the gift of music were also things Sonja very much enjoyed. Above all else, Sonja’s greatest joys came from tending and loving – unconditionally - her beautiful grandchildren, Ashley Tyree Marie (10 years old), and Ethan Alexander (1 year old); the bond she shares with them will undeniably reach far beyond the passing of her sweet Spirit.

Sonja was preceded in death in death by her parents, Rodney and Noma Tew, her loving husband, Larry Quigg, Mother and father-in-law, Claude (“Erskine”) and Donna Olaveson Quigg, brother and sister-in-law, Karl Quigg and Gay Stuart. Sonja’s beloved niece, Tiff’ni Tew, as well as paternal and maternal grandparents, cousins, and aunts and uncles, also welcomed her Home on Friday morning.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Allison Quigg (Joel Neubacher) of Idaho Falls, and grandchildren, Ashley Tyree Marie Quigg and Ethan Alexander Neubacher. In addition to many nieces and nephews, Sonja is also survived by nine siblings who will miss her dearly. Surviving brothers (spouses) include; Warren (Gloria) Tew of Salt Lake City, UT, Kent (Darlene) Tew of Firth, ID, Bruce (Muriel) Tew of Pueblo, CO, Craig (Bonnie) of Bluebell, UT, and Kurtis (Karla) Tew of Firth, ID. Sonja’s surviving sisters (spouses) include; Jeanette (Larry) Esplin of Salt Lake City, UT, Tammy (Kent) Laird of Rawlins, WY, Rebecca (Jim) Layton of Pocatello, ID, and Malene (Todd) Smith of Lewiston, ID.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, November 9, 2013 at the Woodruff 1st Ward Chapel (1660 12th Street), in Idaho Falls. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 7:00 till 8:30 p.m. at Nalder Funeral Home (110 West Oak) in Shelley and Saturday morning from 10:00 till 10:45 a.m. at the church. Interment will be in the Fielding Memorial Cemetery.
