Thomas Anthony Jensen of Firth, ID left this earthly life for his “next adventure” as he described it, on January 20, 2020.
Tom was born on December 22, 1941 to Thomas Withers Mellor and Selma Evered Campbell, in Pocatello, Idaho. Born and raised as the youngest sibling of 3.
As a toddler Tom’s mother and her 3 children moved to Salt Lake City, UT, where she met and married Keith Jensen.
Tom attended and graduated from Granite High School in Salt Lake City. He then continued his education at the University of Utah and was a Ute’s fan and an overall sports enthusiast, through and through.
Tom met and married Donna Johnson and for a time shared in raising 2 children, a son Tommy and a daughter Debbie. After divorcing, Tom began working as a sales rep for a beauty supply company and in 1968 he met his sweetheart, Verna Sharon Johnson who was working as a cosmetologist. On January 14, 1972 Tom and Sharon were married and later sealed for eternity on February 10, 1982 in the Idaho Falls temple. Together Tom and Sharon raised 5 sons, Robert, Kevin, Paul, Jonathan and Todd. Tom was extremely proud of his 5 sons and all of their individual accomplishments in life and especially the families that they are raising.
Tom worked for Sears Roebuck and Company for a few years before becoming an insurance agent for Farm Bureau of Idaho, where he served his clients diligently for 27 years.
Tom was an avid fisherman. If he wasn’t on the water in a fishing boat that he had purchased for a “deal”, he could be found in the yard fixing one up to turn for a profit. He also enjoyed tying flies and selling them. But Tom’s true passion in his golden years was attending any event that his grandchildren were involved in. His days and weeks were planned around the events of his grandchildren’s lives. He lived to support his grandchildren from the stands, even when it became difficult for him to leave his home he made the effort to be to as many of his grandchildren’s events as possible. Whether it meant just parking as close to the fence within sight as possible or barely making it to the first row in the gym, he made every effort possible to support his grandchildren. He was their #1 supporter in this life and we know that he is continuing that role in his next adventure as well.
Tom was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and served in many callings such as Scouts, Elders Quorum, High Priest Group and on the High Council. His testimony of the plan of salvation was a main topic on his lips during his last memorable days with us. He looked forward with such enthusiasm to his “next adventure” saying “Well, it is what it is” and then describing his joy and excitement of being reunited with friends and family, especially his “Dear Mother”, on the other side. But he was most excited above all to know that he would never miss a grandchild’s game or event again. His support and love will be felt by all and though he will be dearly missed we know that he will be nearby in the stands cheering us all on.
Tom is survived by his wife Sharon Jensen of Firth, ID, son Robert(Heather) of Firth, ID, son Kevin(Brenda) of Shelley, ID, son Paul(Mary) of Firth, ID, son Jonathan(Amber) of Idaho Falls, ID, son Todd of Murtaugh, ID, Sister, Diane Jacobi of SLC, UT, son Tommy Mellor of Spanish Fork, UT, daughter Debbie Mellor of Blackfoot, 21 grandchildren and 9 great- grandchildren.
