True Frances Farrar

The upheaval of World War I had created gloom over the country but on June 4, 1918, in a little home in Basalt, Idaho, True Frances Hanny presented herself as a bright spot in the lives of her parents Albert Franklin Hanny and Nellie Florence Dye. Soon after her birth the family moved to Firth where True was fortunate to spend the remaining 96 years of her life. On September 30, 2014 True left this life to join those of her family who have gone on before her.

She started elementary school in the Dye School District #4 and later graduated from Firth High School. Education was always important to her and later she took night classes for college credit as well as taking advantage of any community classes that were offered in Firth.

In a ceremony conducted by her father in the Hanny family home, True married Eugene “Bill” Farrar on April 17, 1937. The marriage was later solemnized in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. They were blessed with seven children during their 67 years of marriage. Bill passed away in 2004.

True is a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She held many callings including working with the youth in Primary, Sunday School and MIA. She also served as pianist for the Primary for many years and many different occasions as well as serving in the Shelley Stake Primary. She had a love for finding her ancestors and helping other find theirs. She spent many years as a research librarian in the Shelley Stake Genealogical Library and also the Regional Genealogical Library.

Hard work didn’t stop her and she was employed at many labor intense jobs where she was praised for her good work ethic. In spite of that she made time for her children, raised a garden, flowers and many pine trees of which she particularly loved. She enjoyed music and reading. She especially enjoyed her grand and great grandchildren. She was very generous with her time and resources to others. When the Firth School District opened its first library in the elementary school True was hired as the librarian. She took a meager library and built it up to meet the standards of the National Library Association. She especially enjoyed reading to the children.

True loved history and she particularly loved the history of Idaho. She was an active member of the Bingham County Historical Society where she held various offices as well as participated as a member. She loved to travel to the many historical sites in Idaho.

True is survived by her children, Reed (LaRee), Cypress, TX, Keith (Mary), Boise, ID, Janice Schwendiman, Boise, ID, Beverly (Tony) Bell, Avondale, AZ, Marilyn (Clint) Jensen, Firth ID, Steven (Kellie), Idaho Falls, ID. and one brother, Joseph (Gwen) Hanny, Preston, ID. Twenty-seven grandchildren, forty great grandchildren and 5 great, great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill, her son Darell, son-in-law Dale Schwendiman, her parents, two sisters Dora (Ivan) Nelson and Joy Hanny, two brothers, Grant (Elaine) and Austin Hanny.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, October 7, 2014 at the Firth Ward Chapel (744 North 600 East). The family will meet with friends Monday evening from 7:00 till 8:30 P.M. at Nalder Funeral Home (110 West Oak) in Shelley and Tuesday morning from 9:30 till 10:40 A.M. at the church. Burial will be in the Firth Cemetery.
