Vance H. Barnett

Vance Hyrum Barnett of Taylor, Idaho passed away January 29, 2013 at the Life Care Center in Idaho Falls, at the age of 99.

Vance was born on May 14, 1913 in Spring Lake, Utah, to Milton Ellis Barnett, and Gladys Barbara Spencer.

He attended school in Payson, Utah, Firth, and Shelley, but due to the depression and the need to work, and support his family he only went through the seventh grade, but he was proud to obtain his GED later in life.

Vance married Lila Millie Wadsworth on November 14, 1937 in Taylor, Idaho; their marriage was sealed in the Idaho Falls temple on July 7, 1950.  They purchased her fathers farm in the community of Taylor on January 31, 1958, which he actively farmed into his seventies.

Besides a great love of farming and raising livestock, he loved sports of all kinds.  Vance was an avid baseball fan, especially of the Atlanta Braves.  In younger years, he was an expert as a pitcher on the Taylor baseball team in the Farmers League.  He also loved bowling, golf, hunting, and fishing.  He was tying fishing flies into his 99

year for his next fishing trip.

Vance served faithfully in several positions for the LDS church and Boy Scouts of America.  He was member of the Shelley School Board and served on the District 6 Flood Control Commission.

Vance is survived by and will be greatly missed by his loving children Jack Barnett (wife Judy), daughter Bonnie Brown (husband Joel) and son Braxton Barnett, all of Idaho Falls, eight grandchildren, and 12 great grand children.  He is also survived by two sisters Betty Maas, and Barbara Shannon of Murrieta, California, and many nieces, and nephews.

He was preceded in death by wife of 60 years, Lila M. Barnett, both of his parents, daughter Sylvia Gaye Aland, son-in-law Bill Aland, a sister Kathleen Adamson, brothers Keith, Maurice, and Berkley.

A visitation for family and friends will be at Nalder Mortuary 110 West Oak, Shelley from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. on Friday February 1, 2013.

Funeral services will be at the Taylor Ward Chapel, 1101 East 1250 North, Shelley, Idaho, on Saturday February 2nd, at 11:00 am, visitation prior from 9:30 to 10:40.  Burial will be in the Taylor Cemetery.
