Vern Eldon Flitton

Vern Eldon Flitton, 79, of Shelley passed away March 26, 2012 at his home.

He was born October 18, 1932 at Idaho Falls, Idaho to Lenord Eugene and Louise Merrill Flitton.  His childhood was spent in Manan and Roberts where he graduated from Roberts High School.  He attended Idaho State University and graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Physics.  Vern served in the United States Air Force where he was honorable discharged. He was a member of the Shelley American Legion and the NRA.

He married Laura Jeannette Martens on October 26, 1953 at St. Louis, Missouri.  She preceded him in death in 2001.  He married Dorothy Gaye Mann on April 2, 2003 at Shelley, Idaho.  She preceded him in death in 2010.

Vern was employed with Command Nuclear in Colorado Springs and for EG&G in several states throughout his life.  He retired from EG&G in Idaho Falls.

Vern lived in Rigby, Pocatello, Colorado Springs, Las Vegas, and Shelley.

He enjoyed trips to San Diego to visit his son, Dave and going to Black Powder Rendezvous.  He also enjoyed attending lunch and activities at the Shelley Senior Center, golfing, spending time with family and going on walks.

Vern is survived by his children, Deborah Lee Flitton of Idaho Falls; David Alan Flitton of San Diego, CA; Shari Marene Crystal of Shelley; and Deanna Sue Flitton of Shelley; seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren, and one sister, Barbara Thompson.

He was preceded in death by his parents, both his wives, granddaughter, Jessica Flitton and brother, Robert Eugene Flitton.

Memorial services will be 1:00 p.m. Monday, April 2, 2012 at Nalder Funeral Home (110 West Oak) in Shelley with Pastor Davey Lefler, Officiating.  The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the services. Military Rites will be by the David B. Bleak Post 93 assisted by the Idaho Honor Guard.  Interment will follow in the Fielding Memorial Cemetery.
