Verna B. Whitmill, 88, passed away peacefully Sunday, May 6, 2018 at the The Gables in Ammon, surrounded by her loving family.
Verna was born March 31, 1930 at the Lawrence Maternity Home in Shelley, Idaho to Orlow Ezra McInelly and Mildred Ardena Christensen McInelly. She was the second of seven children. She grew up in the Goshen area on a farm and attended schools in Goshen and Firth. She was always busy with farm chores, picking potatoes and thinning beets, but she had time to learn from her mother, how to cook, and how to care for a house and family.
She married Richard Ray Whitmill on September 1, 1947 in Goshen. After marriage, they lived in Shelley for a short while and then eventually settled in Goshen where they raised their five children.
Serving in the Primary, Scouting Program, and Young Women, kept her plenty busy. She was also involved in 4-H and her children’s activities. She belonged to a sewing club where she met and enjoyed many friends.
Throughout her life she worked for King’s, Slusser Wholesale and Pillsbury in Shelley where she eventually retired. After retirement they moved to Idaho Falls in 2001. They were just two weeks short of celebrating 60 years of marriage when Ray passed away, August 20, 2007.
She was kept busy doing the things she loved; being with family, puzzles, reading, making photo albums for family and friends, gardening and growing flowers. Her house was known for being the house with all the flowers in front.
She is survived by her children Verna Rae John (LaMar), Larry Whitmill, Doris Russel (Eric), Dennis Whitmill (Kristy), Kelly Whitmill (Crystal), 17 grandchildren, 40 great grandchildren, and two sisters, Belva Hansen and Ivola Campbell.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Whitmill, parents, Orlow and Mildred McInelly, and siblings, Leon McInelly, Ardena Landon, Gerald McInelly, Paulilne Ziegler and Charlene Perkes.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 12 at 11 am at the Presto Ward Church in Goshen. The family will visit with friends and neighbors at Nalder Funeral home in Shelley on Friday, May, 11 from 6 to 7:30 pm and Saturday from 10 to 10:40 am prior to the services at the Presto Church. Burial will be the Goshen Cemetery.
The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff of the Gables and Encompass Health Care for their kindness and care of our mother the past few months.
