Verna H. Carpenter

Verna H. Carpenter, 74, of Firth, passed away Friday, April 4, 2008.

She was born May 9, 1933 in Pocatello, Idaho, the fourth daughter of Wm. Melvin & Besssie Hodgson.   She attended schools in Pocatello, graduating from Pocatello HighSchool. The family moved to Osgood and it was here she met & later married Fred C, Carpenter, November 16, 1956 in the Idaho Falls Temple. They resided in Osgood until 1978 when they moved to Atomic City for 3 years, then to Firth.     

She worked as a secretary and bookkeeper for several different businesses bothbefore her marriage and afterward while raising their children, etc. and retired in 2004.     An active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she earnedboth her Silver Gleaner and Golden Gleaner awards, and served in many Churchpositions, mostly in Primary and Relief Society.            

She greatly enjoyed spending time with Fred and the children, grandchildren, and many friends – snowmobiling, fishing, 4 wheeling, many trips, and doing differenttypes of handwork, especially crocheting.             

Survivors include their children:  Dave (Debbie) Carpenter of Rigby (stepson);Bill Taylor, stepson-in-law of Nampa, Brent (Barbara) Carpenter and Ron (Jolene)Carpenter of Rexburg;  Kevin (Marilee) of Firth; Carla (Danny) Elliott of Shelley:  Cory(Erin) Carpenter of  Idaho Falls; sisters Clara Pruette of Indio,California;  Maudene (Boyd) Allred of Boise; Marie Campbell of Highland, Utah; 26 grandchildren and 14   great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 50+ years, her parents, and step-daughter Cathy Taylor.     

Funeral services will be held 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, April 8 at the Firth LDS church (744 North 600 East) with Bishop Todd Williams conducting. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 6:00 till 8:00 P.M. at Nalder Funeral Home (110 West Oak) in Shelley and Tuesday morning one hour prior to funeral at the church. Interment will be in the Fielding Memorial Cemetery.
