Viola Bateman Hackett

Viola Bateman Hackett, died February 7, 2009, 3 days short of her 100th birthday in Vancouver Washington.

She was born February 10, 1909 in Shelley, Idaho, to Hyrum and Louisa Ann Higgins Bateman. She attended Shelley Schools and served a two year South Western States Mission.

She married Glen B. Hackett and moved to Vancouver, Washington in 1943.

She was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many organizations, including 35 years in the Relief Society Presidency.

She was a master gardener, and loved needlework, especially tatting. She was renowned throughout the northwest for her beautiful wedding cakes and candies.

She was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Her love and influence will be greatly missed by those whose lives she touched.

She is survived by her children, Arlene (Douglas) Adams of Shelley; Arlan (Barbara) Hackett and Dixie Hackett both of Vancouver, Washington; 7 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and 16 great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, five siblings, a granddaughter, and an infant son.

Funeral services will be held at noon, Saturday, February 14, 2009 at Nalder Funeral Home (110 West Oak) in Shelley. Interment will be in the Shelley Hillcrest Cemetery.
