Virginia D. Hansen

December 13, 1919 — May 13, 2008

Virginia D. Hansen, 88, died on Tuesday, May 13, 2008 at her home in Firth, Idaho after a brief illness.  

Virginia was born December 13, 1919, in Layton, Utah, the daughter of Orson Francis and Lydia Ellen Higley Walton. She attended Davis High School.  

She married Lorin George Hansen on December 9, 1937, in Salt Lake City, Utah. She met him in Lower Presto at the home of her Uncle Willis Higley who was married to his Aunt Carrie Hansen. They lived their entire married life in the same house in Firth. She was the devoted mother to five children and two foster sons.  

Virginia was active in Firth PTA where she served as president and in the Farm Bureau. She worked on the family farm milking cows, irrigating, and baling hay and for a time at the R. T. French Co. in Shelley and J.C. Penney’s in Idaho Falls. She was a wonderful cook who made many meals for the haying, threshing and shearing crews as well as WWII German prisoners of war who worked on the farm. Scones were her specialty for favored people. She made beautiful quilts for all her children and grandchildren, and her crochet and embroidery work was exceptional. She loved gardening and a special joy was the peaches she grew.  

She was an active member of the LDS church where she served MIA secretary and camp director, Primary teacher, Relief Society work director and cannery coordinator.  

She is survived by her husband, Lorin, daughters, Susan Loretta (Bob) Errington, Newbury Park, CA, Judith (Alan) Jolley and Ann Marie (Chet) Whiteside and son, Gene George (Susan) Hansen all of Firth; 15 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren; sisters, Bessie Marie Clawson and Josephine LaRue Casey of Layton, UT, and Ruth Lydia (Grant) Cooper of St. George, UT.

She was preceded in death by her parents, daughter Nancy Dailey, and siblings Orson Willis, Kenneth Francis, Lerene and Leon Faye Walton, Dorothea Davis, Ora Coonradt, and Parlee Jewel Reed.  

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m Saturday, May 17 at the Presto/Goshen LDS Church on Goshen Road, Shelley with Counselor Kirk Jolley officiating. Family visitation will be from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at Nalder Funeral Home in Shelley and from 10:00 to 10:40 a.m. at the church prior to the services. Interment will be in the Goshen Cemetery.
