Virginia Lee Mecham

September 11, 1938 — August 7, 2015

Virginia Lee Delaney Mecham, 76, of Goshen, passed peacefully away August 7, 2015 at her home in Ammon.

Ginny was born September 11, 1938 to Daniel Joseph and Ilda Hazel (Jensen) Delaney.  She graduated from Snake River High School and attend Ricks College.  On April 6, 1957 she married Norman Arthur Mecham in Blackfoot, Idaho.  They were later sealed in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple on July 31, 1959.

They started their family in Blackfoot, but moved to a farm in Goshen Idaho in 1963.  In this wonderful community they established life-long friendships and raised their six children.  Ginny worked many years in the medical community in Idaho Falls.  She worked in two hospitals and for several clinics.  She also volunteered for the Shelley/Firth QRU. She was the first woman to serve on the Firth School District Board of Trustees, doing so for 9 years.

She served in many capacities in the Goshen LDS Ward.  She made people feel loved and accepted.  Children she taught would often receive beautifully decorated cakes for special occasions.  She also made many wedding cakes for young people she had worked with.  She would always welcome anybody her children or husband brought home. When friends stopped by, cookies or cake would appear as if by magic. Nobody ever left hungry or without feeling they were more than welcome to come back. She kept busy with all kinds of hobbies. She sewed clothes for everyone from her large sons to very fashionable outfits for her daughters’ Barbie dolls.

She took her role as grandma very seriously; loving children, baking cakes, making blankets, and always having some butter cream frosting in the fridge for grandkids to make masterpiece cookies or cupcakes with.

She is survived by two sisters and one brother, her children: Dale and Marva Mecham, Daniel and Claudia Mecham, David and Deslynn Mecham, Douglas and Kathy Mecham, and TaraLee Mecham.  She will be missed by 19 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

She was proceeded in death by her husband, Norman, her daughter Julie Ann and two brothers.
