Virginia Palmer Miskin

Virginia Crooks Palmer Miskin, 92, of Idaho Falls, died June 5, 2015 at Teton Post  Acute Care in Idaho Falls.

She was born April 7, 1923, at Harlem, Montana, to Clifford John and Mary Millar Crooks. She attended Taysom Elementary School and graduated from Shelley High

ing graduation, she attended nurse’s training for three years at the LDS Hospital in Idaho Falls graduating as a registered nurse in 1944.

On May 4, 1945, she married Joseph William (Bill) Palmer in the Logan, Utah, LDS Temple. After their marriage, they made their home in Woodville until 1962 when they bought a farm in the Goshen area. During their marriage she worked as a registered nurse, first as a nurse in the office of Dr. Hoge in Shelley and then as a special-duty nurse at both the LDS and Sacred Heart Hospitals in Idaho Falls.  She later worked as a school nurse for both the Firth and Snake River school districts until her retirement in 1987.

Virginia had many interests, foremost of which was her role as wife and mother.  In her spare time (which was limited) she enjoyed caring for her yard and garden.  After moving to Goshen she became a ham radio operator, attaining an Extra Class license, the highest class offered by the FCC. Her call sign was N7BEZ. She participated in this hobby for many years.

Bill died in 1997. She married Richard J. Miskin in Idaho Falls in 2003 and moved from Goshen to Idaho Falls.  She and Richard enjoyed dancing and attended numerous dances through the years. They also attended the temple regularly and performed together at senior citizen centers.

An active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she served in the Young Women’s organization, the Sunday School, and in the Relief Society. After her retirement, she served in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple for 26 years.

Survivors include her husband, Richard, of Idaho Falls; four sons, Brent Palmer (Rosemary) and Gary Palmer (Amelia), both of Goshen, Craig Palmer (Jeanine) of Orem, Utah, and Lorin Palmer (Nancy) of Boulder City, Nevada; a daughter, Jan Tobler (Karl) of Las Vegas, Nevada; sisters, Bonita Hanson of Shelley and Geniel Fife of Royal Palm Beach, Florida; two brothers, Duane Crooks of American Fork, Utah and Sherwin Crooks of Shelley; 28 grandchildren and 55 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Bill, a daughter-in-law Ellen Palmer, two brothers Claxton Crooks and Kent Crooks.
