Voyd R. Stewart

Voyd R. Stewart, 74, of Shelley passed away March 26, 2011 surrounded by family at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center.

Voyd was born March 16, 1937 to J. Reed Stewart and Vera Amanda Smith in Idaho Falls, Idaho.  He was raised in Osgood and graduated from Idaho Falls High School.  He served in the Army for two years after graduation.

He married Dixie Diane Dial on November 21, 1958.  He farmed and raised cattle in the Osgood and Shelley areas.  During this time they raised a family of six children.  In 1990 he moved to Hermiston, Oregon where he worked for Mikami Brothers.  Voyd and Dixie moved back to Shelley, Idaho in 2001 to be closer to family after he was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s.

He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, serving in many different callings.  He enjoyed being outside, spending time with his family, fishing, and hunting.

Voyd is survived by his wife, Dixie of Shelley; son, Voyd D. (Wendi) Stewart of Shelley; daughters, Sandra (Jeff) Legg of Billings, MT; Christine (Grant) Williamson of Herriman, UT; Susan (Steve) Burk of Ogden, UT; Diane (Garth) Hall of Idaho Falls; Ellen (Karl) Ransom of Boise; 19 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.  Also survived by siblings, Joe Stewart of Idaho Falls; Linda (Neal) Boyce of Shelley; Russell (Lorraine) Stewart of Shelley.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Vaudis.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 A.M. Wednesday March 30, 2011 at the Shelley First Ward Chapel (184 North Park) with Bishop Thane Bolander officiating. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 7:00 till 8:30 P.M. at Nalder Funeral Home (110 West Oak) in Shelley and Wednesday morning 9:30 till 10:40 at the church.  Interment will be in the Fielding Memorial Cemetery with military rites by David B. Bleak Post 93 assisted by the Idaho Honor Guard.
