Walt Tschikof

January 16, 1921 — March 23, 2011

Walter Tschikof died on Wednesday, March 23

rd

in Meridian, Idaho, at the well-seasoned age of 90.

Devoted husband of Dolly (deceased),  father of Lynda Unterthiner (Rudi),  Peggy Ahlstrom (Craig), Danny Tschikof, deceased (Debra), Penny Honsinger (Dave),  and Randy Tschikof (Ann),  grandfather of 16, and great grandfather of 27, his legacy reaches around the globe.

Walt was born in Woodville, Idaho January 16, 1921 to Austrian immigrants, George and Mary Tschikof, grew strong on the family farm through his youth and graduated from Firth High School in 1938.  His head was turned at a local soda fountain by the wholesome, smiling beauty of Dolly Williams, whom he married in 1944.

As part of

The Greatest Generation

, Walt joined the Army in 1944, ultimately participating in the occupation of Japan.   He farmed for many years before establishing Shelley Cabinet Company in 1957, which grew into one of the most respected commercial and residential cabinet suppliers in Southeastern Idaho.

After sixty-two of years of marriage, the shadow of Dolly’s passing in 2006 changed Walt’s world.  Subsequent health problems led to a move to Diamond View Assisted-Living facility in Meridian, Idaho in 2008.  Though he was no longer able to wade a fly-fishing stream, or walk 36 holes, or lift a cabinet over his head, he remained strong in spirit, unfailing in his love of family, and as a result of placing his faith in Christ, was confident that he would soon be reunited with Dolly.

We hope all those wishing to honor Walt’s life will attend a memorial celebration planned for 4:00 P.M., June 25, 2011 at Nalder Funeral Home in Shelley, Idaho.

In lieu of flowers we know he would like contributions made to his favorite non-profit organization … BORP

(Bay Area Outreach and Recreational Program),

a

leading provider and promoter of accessible sports and recreation for children and adults with physical disabilities  and which directly benefits his great-grandsons.   Contributions can be made at

www.borp.org

or can be sent to BORP, 3075 Adeline St., Suite 155, Berkeley, CA 94703.
