Wesley J. High

Wesley J. High, 59, of Firth, ID passed away on Saturday, June 29th, at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center.  Wes fought a hard battle against esophageal cancer but with recent complications of pneumonia, he slipped away peacefully while surrounded by his family.

Wes was born on April 21, 1954, in Idaho Falls, to Willis and Darlene (Leonard) High.  Wes and his two brothers and two sisters grew up in Basalt.    After graduating from Firth High School, Wes married his only high school sweetheart, Sheryl E. Cederberg on May 10, 1973.  Wes adored Sheryl and they spent forty years in Firth, ID and have four children together. 

Wes loved to work.  He seemed to spend his entire life with a hammer in one hand and drawings in another.  Wes attended Vo-Tech and obtained a journeyman's certificate for carpentry.  Wes was also a member of the Carpenters Union #808.  The past twelve years, Wes spent much of his time as a Project Manager for many of the resort areas in and around and Grand Teton and Yellowstone National Parks.  Wes taught his sons everything he knew and worked with them every day, even starting a small construction company together. 

As much as Wes loved to build things, his greatest joy was his children and especially his grandchildren. He was loved by his family and the miles apart never seemed to matter. He loved to call his daughters, regardless of the time differences, just to tell them good morning on the weekends, then promptly ask to speak to one of the kids.  Wes had five granddaughters, one grandson, and was eagerly awaiting one on the way.  He would surround his office with pictures them.  He never forgot a birthday and made a point to be to every dance recital and ball game he could.  His sons and daughters in law were as much of his children as the ones they were married to. 

Wes is survived by his wife, Sheryl, his children; Heather (Cesar) Alvarez of Virginia Beach, VA, Gretchen (Robert) Whitman of Ft. Benning, GA, Adam (Carly) High of Firth,ID, and Jordan (Michelle) High of Shelley, ID, his brothers; Bill (Marla) High of Idaho Falls, Gary (Debbie) High of Blackfoot, ID, Linda Soderquist of Blackfoot, ID, and Judy (John) Lucci of Casper, WY.  Wes was preceded in death by his parents Willis and Darlene High and his mother in law, Betty Cederberg.

Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, July 3rd at the Bethel Lutheran Church, 410 Main Street, Firth, at 11:00 a.m., with graveside services to follow in the Riverview Cemetery.  Family will receive friends on Tuesday, July 2nd, from 7:00 until 8:30 p.m. at Nalder Funeral Home, 110 West Oak in Shelley.
