William Paul Moore

William Paul Moore, 61, of Shelley passed away June 16, 2015 at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center.

Paul was born in March 22, 1954 in Lake Charles, Louisiana to Jimmie Moore and Mildred Pinkney where he was the youngest of 10 children.

He spent his childhood in Louisiana until after high school graduation he moved to Houston, Texas to live with his brother and work.

He enlisted in the US Air Force and did his training for security police at Lockland Air Force Base.

He was stationed at Offutt Air Force base in Omaha and was in the Elite Guard and guarded Strategic Air Command.

He later cross-trained into motion picture photography and was stationed at Vandenberg Air Force base in Lompoc, California filming missiles launched and later Honorably discharged.

While stationed in Omaha he met his wife, Mavis Weikel on the steps of the barracks at Offutt while she was waiting for her boyfriend.

They dated for two weeks before deciding to get married at Papillion, Nebraska on June 17, 1974.

Paul joined the LDS church in 1975 where he held several callings including 1

counselor and served a mission with Mavis locally.

The Moores moved to Shelley, Idaho in August of 1982 where he was able to find work at Logan Equipment as a welder.

He later worked at Frenches and Pillsbury. He became a security guard at the Youth Services Center in St. Anthony.

He joined the Bingham County Sheriff’s Department as a correction officer for a year then became an Elementary school Resource officer.

As the resource officer he was able to work with children and teach DARE for 12 years.

He loved the DARE program and loved children.

In 2003 he retired from the Sheriff’s office due to health and medical problems.

His health continued to decline until his death.

He is survived by his wife, Mavis of 41 years, sons, Bennie Moore and Shawn Francis, daughters, Renate Francis and Autumn Nielson, and eight grandchildren, all of Shelley; brothers WC Jackson and Randy Moore and sisters, Mildred Williams, Mary Louise Brown, Marjorie Jackson, Norma Jean Jackson, Lila Moore.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, June 22, 2015 at the Shelley Eighth Ward Chapel (184 North Park Ave). The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 6:00 till 7:30 P.M. at Nalder Funeral Home (110 West Oak) in Shelley and Monday morning from 9:30 till 10:40 a.m. at the church.  Burial will be in the Shelley Hillcrest Cemetery with Military Honors by the David B. Bleak Post #93 of Shelley.
