Winnona Christensen John

May 24, 1910 — March 4, 2011

Winnona Christensen John, 100, former Shelley resident passed away March 4, 2011 at the Sublette Center Care center in Pinedale, Wyoming.

Winnona was born May 21, 1910 in Goshen, Idaho to William P and Janet McBride Christensen.  She attended school in Goshen and Firth High School.

She married David E. John in the Salt Lake Temple on August 31, 1929.  They moved to Shelley in 1972.  They farmed in Taylor, Shelley and the New Sweden area.  She worked at the French's Potato Plant, and was a pink lady at the hospital.  They were very active with the Riverdale Grange.

She enjoyed traveling, quilting and crafts.  She and her husband spent some winters in Overton, Nevada.  They traveled to most of the United States, including Alaska and Hawaii.  They spent 10 winters in Overton, Nevada.

She moved to the Lincoln Court Living Center in 2005 and after the death of her husband in 2008, she moved to the Sublette Care Center in Pinedale in January 2009.

She is survived by her daughter, Nylla (Gene) Kunard in Pinedale, WY;  sons, Neivell (Joan) John of Meridian, Idaho; and Lynn (Sandra) John of Syracuse, Utah; one sister, Crystal Gruvman of Idaho Falls;  2 sisters-in-law, Norma John of Idaho Falls and Laureen Christensen of Rexburg; 11 grandchildren, 30 great grandchildren and 15 great great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, David in 2008, her son, Kay in 2004, three brothers, Earsel, Ellis and Merrill and two sisters, Zella Varney and Verna Christensen.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 A.M. Wednesday March 9, 2011 at Nalder Funeral Home (110 West Oak) in Shelley. The family will receive friends Wednesday for 30 minutes before the service.  Interment will be in the Goshen Cemetery.
