Zola John

January 16, 1920 — July 5, 2013

Zola John, 93, of Blackfoot passed away peacefully at her home on Friday July 5, 2013.

She was born January 16, 1920 in Blackfoot, Idaho to Marion and Lucille Harper Sorensen. She was the second of nine children. She was preceded in death by siblings: Marion, Richard “Dick”, Marvin, Louie Loraine, J Dean, Darrell and La Rae Sorensen. She is survived by her youngest brother, Gary Sorensen.

She married Thomas LaVere John on June 30, 1939.  They were later sealed in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. To this union five children were born. Thomas L. John (Bonnie), Ronald John, Linda Steffler, David John (Keri) and Karolyn Taberna (John). LaVere and Zola were married for 74 years. They lived most of their married life in the Blackfoot area.

Zola worked at Sunspice and INL. She was an excellent cook and always made sure no one was ever hungry.  She always put everyone before herself. Zola sewed many clothes for her children and grandchildren with perfection.  It was rare to see her just sit still, as she was usually doing something for someone else. Zola was kind and appreciative in all circumstances. She was considered the perfect wife, mother and grandma by all of her family.

She is survived by her husband, Thomas LaVere John, five children, 17 grandchildren, 26 great- grandchildren,13 great-great-grandchildren and by her brother Gary Sorensen.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 9, 2013, at the Wapello 2

Chapel (337 North 200 East). The family will receive friends Monday evening from 7:00 till 8:30 p.m. and Tuesday morning from 10:00 till 10:40 both at the church. Burial will be in Shelley Hillcrest Cemetery under the direction of at Nalder Funeral Home in Shelley.

The family would like to give special thanks to all staff at Access Home Health and Hospice for all the care they provided.
