September 20, 1935 — June 5, 2017

Alice Anne Porter, 81, passed away from surgical complications on Monday, June 5th, 2017 at the Huntsman Cancer Institute in Salt Lake City.

She was born in Grand Island, Nebraska to William Arthur Miller (1911-1982) and Loretta Mae {Andrews} (1915-1989). She grew up in a large family, which moved to the Firth area in the 1940s.

In 1953 she married Lloyd Arnold Coffey, and moved to Covina, California. They had three children: Julia Beth Mendoza {Coffey} of Portland, Oregon; Dana William Coffey (1957-1997) and Guy Thomas Coffey (1959-2009). The couple divorced in 1959.

In 1960 she married John Francis Porter, and lived variously in Los Angeles and Redding, California; Fort Dodge, Iowa; Grand Island and Central City, Nebraska; finally settling in the Shelley and Idaho Falls area. They had six children: John Francis Porter, II of Sheridan, Oregon; Michael Wilbur Porter (1962-2015); Virginia Anne Porter (1963-1963); Danny Edward Porter (1964-2005); Lorraine Kathleen Porter of Shelley and Carl Edwin Porter of Idaho Falls.

Anne was loved by almost everyone who knew her, a touchstone and foundation in her family’s life. She had a long working career, with jobs ranging from working in a bakery in California to working at the Cornhusker Bomb Plant in Nebraska. She retired at 78 years of age from the Good Samaritan Retirement Home of Idaho Falls. She enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren; playing penny slots; chatting with and helping her elderly friends. Always alert and engaged, she enjoyed a busy and energetic life until the end.

Anne was proceeded in death by both husbands, her parents, two brothers, three sisters and five of her children. She is survived by two sons and two daughters, thirteen grandchildren, and thirteen great-grandchildren. She is mourned by her surviving brothers Lester and Dell Miller of Idaho Falls and her sister Edna Brininger of Butte, Montana.
