Carol Dawn Francesconi Tolman, 82, passed away January 7, 2026 at Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center surrounded by her loving family.
Carol was born February 26, 1943 to Gino and Dorothy Francesconi in Soda Springs Idaho and later moved to Pocatello. She attended and graduated from Pocatello High School.
In 1959 she married the love of her life Robert Fell Tolman and continued to reside in Pocatello. They were sealed in the Idaho Falls temple on June 6,, 1964. In 1987 they moved to Basalt, Idaho where Robert was Post Master and Carol worked for Thrifty Nickle want ads.
Robert and Carol loved to dance, and throughout their life, dance and music were always in their home. They often taught dance for Church dance festivals. Although she held many callings in the Church, these were her favorite callings in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Carol was a devoted member of the Church and follower of Jesus Christ.
Family was the most important thing in Carol’s life and she and Robert were blessed with seven children: Robert J. (Elizabeth), Debarah Crane (Glenn), Shanna Shurtliff (Jerry), Roger (Karen), Joel (Amy), Peter (Clarissa), and Andrea Underwood (John). She was also the proud grandmother of 28 grandchildren: (Robert) Matthew, Bianca, Andrew and Brienna, (Debarah) Chana, Jenny, Derek and Rachael, (Shanna) Abra, Tristan, Christopher, (Roger) Joshua, Desa Lynn, Bobbi Leigh, Chad, Sydney, (Joel) Maddison, Allison, Micheal, (Peter) Bradley, Alexia, Zachary, Natalie, Brooklyn, Avery, (Andrea) Nykalus, Braedyn, and Teaghyn. She also has 30 great grandchildren.
Carol was always looking for a reason for the family to get together and celebrate. Food was always at the center of the celebration and as one was concluding she was already planning the menu for the next get together. Her spaghetti was always a family favorite. Carol will be missed on every camping trip, family Thanksgiving, Christmas party and birthday celebration.
Carol is preceded in death by her father, mother, sister, Dorothy Jean Barrett, brother, Scott Francesconi, daughter, Debarah and son, Joel.
She is survived by her husband, Robert, and children, Robert J., Shanna, Roger, Peter and Andrea.
The family would like to thank the ICU and 5th floor staff at EIRMC for their compassionate care.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 16, 2026 at the Firth Stake Center, 823 N 675 E in Basalt. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6:00 till 7:30 p.m. at Nalder Funeral Home, 110 W Oak Street in Shelley and Friday morning from 10:00 a.m. till 10:45 a.m. at the church. Burial will be in the Basalt Cemetery.
