Donald John Kelley

April 23, 1934 — July 17, 2025

Ammon

Donald John Kelley, a devoted husband, proud father, loving grandfather, and great-grandfather, was born on April 23, 1934, in Shelley, Idaho, and passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 17, 2025. He leaves behind a life marked by deep devotion to family, faithful service to his country, and years filled with love, laughter, and cherished memories.

Don was an accomplished athlete in his youth, playing baseball, basketball, track, and football throughout his high school years. In the winter, he could often be found ice skating on the canals or snow skiing—always embracing the season with energy and joy.

After graduation, Don proudly served in the United States Air Force as a mechanic on the B-47 Jet bomber. He served on active duty from 1953 to 1957 and continued in the Air Force Reserve until 1961.

Following his military service, Don began a long and dedicated career with Amcor, where he worked for 42 years. He took great pride in his work and approached each day with responsibility, discipline, and commitment. His career was a meaningful part of his life, and he valued the opportunity to provide for his family through decades of hard work.

A lifelong fan of Detroit sports, Don faithfully cheered for the Tigers, Lions, Red Wings, and Pistons. Whether it was baseball season or hockey night, he found joy in following his favorite teams and sharing that passion with those around him—whether through spirited conversation or quiet game-day rituals.

Don also had a deep love for the outdoors. An avid hunter and fisherman, he cherished time spent in nature—always returning with stories, laughter, and lasting memories shared with family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Milton and Caroline Kelley; his brothers, Jay and Darwin; his sisters, Donna, Coleen, and Wanda; his daughter, Roxie; and his son-in-law, Paul (Vickie).

Don is survived by his loving wife of nearly 41 years, Nancy; his children Paula, Vickie, Diane (Bruce), Dan (Michelle), and Christie; 18 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren. His family was his greatest pride, and his memory will live on through the stories shared, the games watched, and the traditions passed down.

Don will be remembered for his steady presence, his love of a good game—whether on the field, in the woods, or in front of the TV—and most of all, for the deep and enduring love he gave his family. His legacy lives on in the hearts and stories of all who knew him.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, July 24, 2025 at the Shelley South Stake Center, 675 South Milton Ave. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening from 6:00 till 7:30 p.m. at Nalder Funeral Home, 110 West Oak Street, Shelley and Thursday afternoon from 1:00 p.m. till 1:45 p.m. at the church. Burial will be in the Shelley Hillcrest Cemetery with Military Rites.
